The French were looking to expand their land at a place called the Ohio River Valley, so they would have more land for their people. The French threatened to take the land the British had already claimed. Numerous battles broke out between them, which lead to a war. William Pitt, the new British leader, managed to get more colonies to fight for the British. Britain's power grew significantly in numbers of soldiers, thus making the British a rising empire. The French and Indian war vastly influenced and altered the political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its colonies by imposing taxes and regulations unfairly towards the colonies. Which caused the colonists to change their ideology from toleration to resentment toward Britain.
France's expansion through the Ohio River brought conflict with Britain because of claims that those lands were British. The war started when Major George Washington went down to the Ohio River with the goal of delivering a message to a French captain, warning them to withdraw their French troops, although it was obviously rejected, therefore George Washington was told to build a fort near Pittsburgh. However, he was unsuccessful because the French attacked George, so he surrendered. Around two years later the British became allies with the Indians, and many Indian's abandoned their French allies.
Throughout the mid 18th century there was a big argument about land and power between the French and the British. This land included the upper land of the Ohio River Valley as well as the rest because the more land someone had the more power they also had. The reason why they were competing for this land was because the British were feeling threatened due to the fact that the French were taking away the land they felt were theirs by right. This also brought a feeling of threat to the British because the French were gaining power and control in trading. The start of the French and Indian War was caused by the dispute between the French and British about who was going to have more land since the more land someone had, the more powerful they were.

The first blood of the French-Indian War began with multiple British failures, including Washington’s dreadful defeat at Fort Necessity and General Braddock’s failed attempt at conquering Fort Duquesne, in which he died along with two-thirds of his army (Document C). Because of the outcome of the war, France was willing to help the colonists. Without the much needed help from the French the colonist may have never won the war.
