The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates is a New York Times Bestseller by none other than, Wes Moore. This novel features an intriguing tale of two boys who grew up under the same circumstances, under the same names, and with the same chances; and yet one manages to become a Rhodes Scholar, decorated combat veteran, White House Fellow, and business leader while the other grew up heisting and selling drugs until he received a life sentence for felony murder after shooting a police officer. The more successful Wes Moore, Wes Moore, began to visit the less successful Wes Moore, the other Wes Moore, during his prison sentence in order to write the book. Furthermore, the book turned out to be great. It was much better than I had anticipated before reading it. Wes Moore is a strong author who properly used writing mechanics to deliver powerful scenes and great messages. I would say that the main theme of this book is the importance of education in adolescent life and that small things really can make all of the difference. The author Wes Moore 's life appeared very dull in comparison to the other Wes Moore 's; however, it was Wes Moore 's life that would provide quotes that inspire or were otherwise relatable to MAST life. One such quote in the novel was : "In spite of myself, I was impressed. I had never seen anything like that before. I had never seen a …show more content…
To continue, the other Wes Moore 's life was packed with drama. The drug and crime-induced life that he lived was thrilling, yet not in the way most teens want to relive. His life gave insight into the consequences of drugs and serious premarital relationships. His life was more interesting to read about in my own opinion yet it the other Wes Moore is far from any role model figure of mine. I did enjoy the other Wes ' blunt way of speech like in the quote, “Your father wasn’t there because he couldn’t be, my father wasn’t there because he chose not to be. We’re going to mourn their absence in different ways"
“The other Wes Moore” book report The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore is a book that uncovers two different stories of two people with the same name. However, the book does not simply tell you two different stories, but it also gives implications to the application of different criminology theories to understand reasons why people do commit crimes and why they do not. The story of two men named Wes Moore can be viewed from different perspective. For instance, it is possible to view their story from a biological type of way, according to which individual choices are the result of inherited behavior of individuals. On the other hand, it is possible to view their story from an environmental type of view.
First, the book is a quick read. Life is busy. Especially for high school students with their many extracurricular activities, volunteer duties, and of course homework. This book will take just a few hours to read and anyone would be able to fit it in a crazy
The parallel writing enhanced my astonishment for the very different fates that the two had grown up to have. The parallel writing also allowed the author to clearly portray that the difference between the two characters was an extremely thin wall, because the parallel writing illustrates how the two had very similar backgrounds with very similar stories, and still ended up having completely different lives, for example when the author wrote about a trouble that Wes got into, the author also wrote about the troubles that the other Wes had got into, in the next chapter. Therefore, the stories goes on in a parallel storyline, until the end, where their different paths were explained about. I was mostly satisfied after completing the book, because the book has taught me that every choice that we make in our daily lives and the judgements of whether the chance you are given is one of many more, or the last one, are crucial decisions that we need to consider thoroughly, otherwise we could easily become the “other Wes Moore.” However, as the author writes, “When I finished my story, the question that comes up is the one of that initiated this quest, ‘What was the difference?’
The Other Wes Moore is an interesting nonfiction novel about the challenges and adversities that children growing up in poor inner city communities face. The author, Wes Moore, examines how the support systems and role models a child has when growing up are crucial to their development. He explain that while the inner city children have control over their own decisions, the influences around them all put pressure on them to make the wrong choices. There was not a huge difference in the lives of Wes and Moore while they were growing up, and the end result of their lives could have easily been reversed if it had not been for the intervention of Moore’s mentors and family. Moore was on a bad path as he was growing up, but the intervention of
The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore is about identity. Throughout the book, Wes Moore questions why he and the other Wes Moore had such different lives, even though, they shared a name. In doing so, it caused him to look deeper into his background and himself and wonder how he ended up where he was, along with the other Wes Moore. According to Wes Moore, “As I’ve puzzled over the issue, I’ve become convinced that there are some clear and powerful measures that can be taking during this crucial time in a young person’s life” (Moore 179). He had discovered that he and the other Wes Moore had similar upbringings, but the choices he made differed from the other Wes Moore’s choices.
I saw it as growing up to become whatever I might want to be. I saw that it was about all the choices you have to make for yourself that no one else had a say about. From a very young age, this book helped me to distinguish that everyone can make choices about themself and their futures
I think this is a great book for people looking for an inspirational story about a religious farm boy who loves the game of football. Overall, from a reader 's point of view, I loved how it was written almost as if it was a journal. This is one of the most glorifying novels I have ever
Following the stories of several teenagers in a year of high school, she gets into the minds of the Goth, the class clown, the ice queen, and the jock. Condie writes a great first novel that makes for a good foundation for the rest of the series. The novel is written in first person which means that the characters get to give better insights into themselves even if no one character is given too much time. While it may not be the classic definition of what happens in high school, it is very relatable to many teenagers today even with its Mormon friendly
The Wes Moore’s Success Can a person's successfulness really depend on on the way they were raised and environment they live in? Many argue that a person’s nature, other wise known as their physical surroundings, could affect how successful someone could become in their future. Others argue that it is a person's nurture that determine their successfulness. In “The Other Wes Moore,” Wes Moore, the author, and the other Wes Moore share the same name and similar lives, but only one manifested himself into a successful life. How did only one Wes Moore manage to make his life successful?
Argumentative Final Paper: Unit 3 The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold has been challenged three times in school libraries. What is the reason that this book has been challenged? The Lovely Bones is a book about a fourteen-year-old girl telling about her life and death.
W-O-W Byron sure is one wild ride! In the book The Watson’s go to Birmingham there are two brothers by the name of Byron and Kenny. Byron has hands down shown a tremendous change in his attitude and behavior… Leading to him always wanting to be the instigator of the family, giving his parents, inadequate temper, and at the end he assuredly became courteous and loving to his family.
I feel as though this book has many life lessons, and is very inspirational. Michael Oher is very strong and fast. Big Tony takes Michael under his care and tries to get him into a high status, white private school. Michael has terrible grades, and he is functioning at a grade level way below where he should be. Administrators of the school still accept him and agree to help him with highschool.
Most modern day teenagers (including me) find the book extremely relatable and inspiring. I have always been the one to sit on the sidelines and watch, rather than play, much like Charlie in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" until he met his two best friends. In the book,
Some things that I liked about the book was the theme the author was trying to get across. I thought it was very creative and a good lesson you should know. And very true the theme of the book was to always try and face your fears because the worst thing that can happen is you don't succeed and facing them. I also thought that the characters were very descriptive and kept you into the story. They kept you in the story because they could make you relate to them in all different ways.
Ever just dream and dream that you will be someone in life and that everything will be all right, well Charlie has too but reality has something else in store for him. Kids now at days say that they will be something or someone in life but they never are prepared for disappointment and when it does happen they are not prepared. Children think that an award will be given to them willingly however, if we teach them now that there will be obstacles they won't have to suffer and if they do they'll know how to get through it. Now at days there is a lot of bullying in this world and most kids now at days don’t know what it means however, if schools allowed kids to read this book they would learn a thing or two on how to respect others.
