I was fortunate enough that a friend of mine who has an annual subscription to the ACT theater in San Francisco had to leave the town one day.
As she was leaving the town, she informed me that she possesses a ticket for a play. The play was "The Race" by Tom Stoppard, a famous British play writer, and it received very high acclaims in the reviews already. To be fair to say, the play topic is highly controversial as it deals with race relations between blacks and white in America today.
On the day of the play, I dressed up wearing my nice pants and a dress shirt, and drove to downtown San Francisco scheduling my time so I can be sure to be on time in the theater.
When I arrived to ACT, I went in handed my ticket, received a copy of the program from a nice lady and

It starts by a mature white man (the white is relevant here) arriving to a prestigious law firm.
The firm does have a partner who is well known and also is black. Again, the black is relevant here. The man tells his story. He is a highly respected president of a highly respected company, but he has a big legal problem. The problem, he explains, is that he recently met a woman in a bar; the woman was black, again it is relevant here, and they engaged in a recreational exciting sex.
Subsequently, the woman, perhaps after finding out that he is rich and socially highly positioned, accused him of raping her.
In the conversation with the law firm, he makes it clear that he wants to have a black lawyer to represent him, and the lawyer and the firm agree to represent him. The black lawyer is supported by a legal assistant who is black and the lawyer thinks very highly of her capabilities and education. They, the man, the lawyer, and his assistant, meet many times to discuss the particulars of this case and discuss different defense plans to handle the what the man says is an unjustified accusation.
The attorney seems to be believe his client and even finds a way to
A white couple in Oregon had been accused of intentionally killing a young black man because he is black out side a store. The young African-American man has to find his way in a white man’s world and protect his family at the same time. As a young boy James was often
(Crowe 174). The way the lawyer spoke was clearly racist because he was insinuating that Chester was dumb, a common stereotype used against black people. He uses this demeaning language to his advantage in the courtroom to put holes in the case to help get Emmett Till’s murderers off scot
Eventually there was a black man on the jury, but only one, and after Ruby Bates gave her statement about making up the rape accusation, the verdict was still guilty. That one man, that one African American changed the future for black all across the South, he may not know it but he did, not only the future but the present. That one man, made a difference in our justice system, he helped shape our future generations; By him being on that jury made him a man of bravery and courage, a man that stood up against those who prejudice, and a man that proved that whites and black
The unfortunate events leading up to Emmett Louis Till’s death and unfair trial were for one reason only- he was black. “The word is some nigra boy from Chicago made ugly remarks and then whistled to Miz Bryant.’ The deputy chuckled. ‘Fool boy forgot where he was, and it’s a fact somebody’s sure to give that boy a talking to.
The winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 2007, The Race Beat, was a novel written by Gene Roberts and Hank Klibanoff; who were both American journalists and editors. The Race Beat was written based on the time period of the Civil Rights Movement. The centralized idea of this novel was to show how racism was finally brought forth and acknowledged as a whole from the nation. This idea was presented from both televised media and printed media. The way The Race Beat was organized was through a bunch of collected interviews, unpublished articles, notes from secret meetings, and even private correspondences.
By the color of your skin people, others make good or bad accusations about you. For Staples, he was walking in an affluent neighborhood, behind a women. She quickly glanced at him, then picked up her pace of speed to get away from him. Soon the women was out of his sight. He noticed that she ran away from him just because he was an African American man.
Nonetheless, there were several instances throughout the play where I enjoyed being an audience member. The audience impacted my experienced because it was filled with a diverse group of people who not only laughed at different jokes throughout the play, but they were also accepting of scenes that touched personally for African-Americans, which showcased how that night people were respectful of hearing dialogue, culture, and heritage from another group of people’s perspective. The central part of the play I was able to engage with was the discussions of what it meant to be an African-American in a white society. The cultural connections of being from the ancestral history of an African but being of African-American descent were very obvious
The man convinces the narrator that when they see the first white guy come by, they’ll kidnap him and rob him. The two men finds a white couple together going towards a big party. While the women hollered at the man asking if he can get her purse and items she left in the car, he went and the two men kidnapped the rich man. They both called him “white boy” and they threatened him for the “white boys’” money. While time passed, both men gave up and decided to leave but the narrator stayed behind to watch for cops as the men told him to do so and got nothing in return from the man who robbed the “white boy”.
In addition, it is not like the author is pulling these experiences out of thin air these are his experiences he is speaking of his own feelings. This adds so much more credibility to his message by showing readers a different point of view in situations usually told by the other side. Usually in any acts of “misconduct” between white and black people the side of the white person is mostly focused on and unless there is clear evidence contradicting the crime the black man is accused of there is a strong probability that the black man will go to jail
On January 15th, 2018, the defendant, Mary Taylor, was accused of refusing to serve the plaintiff, Brianna Banks, at Mary’s Diner located in downtown Atlanta. Ms Banks, an African American woman, claimed that she walked into the diner, sat herself as customers were directed to do, and, after 20 minutes of waiting in the diner during what she described as a “slow time”, was not helped by Ms Taylor. Banks then proceeded to get up from her table, caused a loud altercation with the hostess at the diner, accusing the business of being racist and claiming that “if her skin was white, she would have been helped within seconds”, and then exited the establishment. After leaving the diner, Brianna Banks went home and did some research on Mary Taylor,
On March 28th, I had the pleasure of attending the Broadway show called “The Play That Goes Wrong,” located at the Lycuem Theatre on 149 West 45th Street. On this particular Tuesday evening, I just had a vibe that something wrong was going to happen in this play – shockingly. I did believe this play will truly be memorable judging by the fun quirk of the show’s name. After watching the performance for about two hours, I can conclude that this play went beyond my expectation as its set disasters and characters amusingly caught the attention of me and the rest of the audience.
During my Explore Chicago class, we were able to go to the play "Esperanza Rising” in the Merle Reskin Theatre. The play tells the reality of many Mexicans farm workers who came to the United States and what they went through in California. The play was really interesting since it presented various topics we had studied this quarter in our Explore Class. The main idea of the play was the life that these immigrants came to have when they reached the United States, in the classroom we discuss what Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, etc., have to go through in the United States and how they are trying to make something out of themselves.
" we find out during his testimony that he feels sorry for Mayella and only stops by to help her because she seems to have no one else to do so. That statement Exhibits that he is just a kind and generous man that was trying to help but instead he got judged and accused for it, more than likely because he was a black man which meant he was thought of as
Attakis Finch was the lawyer of Tom Robinson and said” even if my defendant is black I will defend him as best I could all doe it is likely he will lose the trail. This quote shows how white people trying to stand up for black
