A controversial topic currently circulating throughout the media and society, is professional athletes kneeling during the National Anthem. In my opinion, this is a completely useless, unnecessary action done just for attention. The theory behind the action is supposed to represent unity. Unity is not achieved by causing controversy, but it’s achieved by coming together and supporting each other when times get tough.

The National Anthem is something many Americans hold dear to their hearts. When football players started to kneel instead of stand with the others as a protest, Americans started to become angry. Football players should stand for the national anthem for the soldiers, to help unify America, and to find another way to protest. First of all, football players should stand for our soldiers. Our soldiers have fought for our country and they fight for our flag.

Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback of the San-Francisco 49ers, chose not to stand for the National Anthem at a recent National Football League game. Instead, he decided to express his unhappiness with the way African Americans are being treated by police, by kneeling to the ground. This was his form of protest and attempt to convey his message about how he felt. Kaepernick does have the right to not stand for the National Anthem, however, it is disrespectful. People fight for our freedom, so why disrespect those men and women and an NFL game was not the right time or place to hold his protest.

My Cap is about the recent kneelings in sports during the national anthem. Football fields have become a forum for political debate over the past week, after Donald Trump criticized players who kneeled during the National Anthem to protest police brutality. Trump and his aides have argued that the protests are disrespectful to the flag and those who have fought to protect the US. The players’ defense is that they are exercising free speech by not participating in the anthem. Former New York Jets player Michel Faulkner, said that teams should stay in the locker room during the National Anthem if they can't honor the flag.

The National Anthem was written in 1814 and was adopted by America in 1931. Years after adopting the National Anthem people are ready to fight and die for it. Recently at Harrison High School a ninth grader by the name of Philip Malloy states he had his first amendment rights taken away. Philip was supposedly singing the National Anthem at a time of respectful silence. What people did not know was that Philip was lying about being stopped for singing.

It 's not a NFL player 's job to be role model 's for young children. If you think it 's that bad you should write them a letter or send them a email, but that won 't listen, there PRO football players. There not going to want to listen to you. Also what is so bad about showboating? Everyone does it.

This action caused an upset among students. Some students are in conflict on how to feel with the demonstration. People should not be disrespecting the flag for any
