Commendable yet unreasonable, leaders whose sole purpose in life is to fix what they see as “wrong” with the world fall prey to thinking there is only ally or enemy. In the long run, they harm those they try to liberate.

Some individuals attempt to remain civil; while others have more radical ideas of what is right for the group. In William Golding’s, Lord of the Flies, a group of boys are deserted on an island without any adults. Ralph, the protagonist, is trying to help the boys stay civil and rational; while Jack, the antagonist, would rather hunt and turn to savage ways.

Comparing and contrasting what we as humans know has led our societies to decide what is right and wrong, what is forward thinking, and what is holding us back. Many books are based upon the ideas established; they all just take different forms with the same central idea. In the dystopian novels, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the reader can see the parallels in character between Mustapha Mond and Jack, and they are also set in vastly different places. While both of these novels are considered dystopian, they are their own twisted story which makes the reader feel for each set of characters. Finally, the Waknukians fear eventually lead them to their downfall, and the same thing goes for the boys in the “Lord of the Flies”.

In all types of war, every individual will have either a positive or a negative emotion or feeling. Most of the time, the individual will leave war with a negative influence that will cause them struggles or stress in the long run. One war that has influenced many people is World War Two. The soldiers who come back from war usually had new ideas on individuals that can change their perspective on human dignity. For example, William Golding fought in World War Two, and he gained ideas and themes that would influence his writing.

Tragedy, terrorism, anarchy, and genocide are all results of the same societal quality; human weakness. This quality causes us to stay seated when the world needs us to stand up. The worst of our world’s history was caused by this societal issue. Throughout time the effects of such little participation and selfishness of people in power are clear. Although many circum to weakness there are some who stand up; those brave individuals overcome the weakness and harness their own opinion and change the world.

I write this not as an Egyptian citizen, but rather as an individual that is worried about his homeland country’s future. Egypt is a nation that has many communities and therefore different cultures, beliefs and opinions. These different cultures form the final Egyptian culture with its traditions and customs. The citizens of Egypt are very proud of their culture and are trying to protect it from external modifications. Nevertheless, Egypt needs to integrate itself with diverse cultures as it is in the process of developing and needs to reshape and gain specific habits in order to advance.

Both of these novels show us how all humans have a heart of darkness or an evil inside them that is usually concealed by the rules and ways of civilization.
