The Underground Railroad was a network of people who helped slaves move northward into Canada to flee from their captors and the people who helped out were kindhearted to help the slaves move away from their slaveholders. When all the slaves moved out is when the Underground Railroad was one of the few instances where the different races came together as a unit to help the slaves move away from their slave owners. In some cases, slaves left their whole family so the family could live the life they want to live. The families went their own directions to freedom because they would have a lower chance of getting caught. The mothers that had children most likely got captured by their slaveholder or moved a lot slower northward than the men. The
