The road of yellow brick is an element in the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, with additional such roads appearing in The Marvelous Land of Oz and The Patchwork Girl of Oz. The 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, based on the novel, gave it the name by which it is better known, the Yellow Brick RoadFlowrate is also a very important measurement as in many modern processes; the flowrate is necessary to calculate many important factors. Because of this it is vital that an accurate and precise measurement method exists. In the following paragraphs, two forms of measurement are discussed. One method, a rotameter, is suitable to use for both gas and liquid flow while the other, a magnetic flow meter, can only be used for liquid flow. Similarly to the previous measurement devices, the information was collected from various sources from both Knovel database and a Google search. Rotameter: …show more content…
A rotameter is a vertical tube whose diameter decreases as the length increases. The bottom of the rotameter has the smallest diameter. There is a moving float that rises as the flowrate increases. It reaches a dynamic equilibrium position when the weight of the float is perfectly counteracted by the up thrust of the fluid and buoyancy forces. Thus the position of the float can be used to determine the flowrate. Typically each rotameter is sized for a specific fluid based on the density and viscosity of the fluid and the height of the float and be directly correlated to the flowrate12. Figure 16 below depicts the basic set up of a
What do Harry Potter, Star, and The Wizard of Oz, all have in common? They all follow the Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey is a popular method of storytelling that has been used around the world for centuries. Joseph Campbell first noticed this in 1949 and put it in his book The Hero With a Thousand Faces. Many famous characters throughout history have followed what he outlined, including Ebenezer Scrooge from Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, which follows what Campbell described in his book.
Have you ever imagined living through life without a steady job, no money, or no food? Both of the characters in these stories endured all of those things. Jurgis and James had many different experiences and many similar experiences throughout their lifetimes. Upton Sinclair wrote a book, The Jungle, describing a young, late teen’s man named Jurgis Rudkus and his family. His family and he moved to America in the early 1900’s looking for a better life.
L. Frank Baum uses three main symbols that create an allegory and represents the political circumstances during the late 19th century. Baum did not intentionally do this, but as you read the novel you will see the connections throughout. During the final years of the 1800s, industrial cities, with all the problems brought on by rapid population growth and lack of infrastructure to support the growth, occupied a special place in U.S. history. For all the problems, the cities promoted a special bond between people and laid the foundation for the multiethnic, multicultural society that we cherish today. During the time of the Industrial Revolution many things affected the farmers, factory workers, and William Jennings Bryan.

When you hear the word nerd, what image appears in your mind? Is it a lonely bairn with glasses, a bow tie, and suspenders who is extremely intellectual and enjoys computers and mathematics? This is the stereotypical nerd. A real nerd, however, does not necessarily need to fit this distinct mold that is set by society. I believe that due to this common portrayal of a nerd, the true definition is misunderstood and incorrectly applied.
The short book “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” by Jeff Kinney starts off when Greg goes to a new school. The most interesting book is "Diary of a Wimpy Kid:Dog Days",it's summer and they go on vacation. Things go crazy. First,Greg goes on summer vacation. For example,“For me summer vacation is basically a three-month guilt trip.
In the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid, author Jeff Kinney uses imagery to convey an image by painting it in the mind of the reader and to convey the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. The pressure is really piling up on Greg Heffley, while his mom believes video games are turning his brain to mush, so she expects her son to put down the controller and explore his creative side. Greg then believes he can get his mom off his back by making a movie after he discovers a bag of gummy worm making his mind think he can become rich and famous in the process. Although this might just after all just double Greg’s trouble.
The classic tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written by L. Frank Baum during a time when women did not have many rights in the United States. Baum was a women’s suffrage advocate, and, that being said, he created one of the most lovable and memorable heroines of all time. The story starts off with Dorothy at her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry’s house when a tornado is forming. Her dog Toto jumps out of her arms to go under the bed, and Dorothy and her house are swept up into the tornado. This is how her journey of Oz begins.
L. Frank Baum’s, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, is a timeless classic that has captivated audiences for over 100 years. It was originally published on May 17, 1900; it has since been reprinted under the name The Wizard of Oz which is the title of the 1902 Broadway musical and the 1939 film. The storyline accounts the adventures of a young girl, Dorothy Gale, trying to make her way back to her Kansas home after she is swept away by a tornado. Throughout the film, the deliberate manipulation of image enforces the author’s message that whenever one seeks his or her heart’s desire, they do not have to look any further than their own back yard.
For my book report, I read The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolken. This is a story of epic proportions, despite it being written as a “children’s book”. The story takes place in the fantasy land of Middle Earth. It follows a young hobbit, little people with ridiculously giant feet that live in hillsides, named Bilbo Baggins. He just is minding his own business with his books and his fancy tea cups when a wizard named Gandalf and some Dwarfs convince him to go on a journey to help the Dwarfs reclaim their kingdom and their riches from a dragon, Smaug, at the Lonely Mountain.
Chronicles of Narnia is an action packed adventure written by C.S. Lewis, he wrote this book for a little girl named Lucy Barfield. The genre is fantasy. I believe that the theme of my book the Chronicles Of Narnia the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, is never giving up and trying again. I believe this because in the story, when Lucy first finds Narnia, and tells her brothers and sisters. They don’t believe her, so she tries again and again.
My topic for the statement of intent based on the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum strongly revolves around the blinded and self-demeaning views shown throughout the book. I have chosen this topic because it is what I am struggling with. I do not believe in myself or what I am able to do and seeing this in the story helps me realize that I am not as dumb as I always seen myself as, as long as I apply and believe in myself. The message that is standing out in the book would be how the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion all did not believe in themselves, but without their knowledge, they were able to perform things they never perceived themselves able to do. This would be the message that L. Frank Baum was implying with the self-doubt of the three characters accompanying Dorothy and Toto on their mission to get back to Kansas.
While the Lord of the Rings was not intended to be a children’s books, its prequel The Hobbit was. Written by J. R. R. Tolkien and published in 1937 the Hobbit has grown from its status as a children’s book to a literary work that is appreciated by people of all ages through the world and sparked a newfound interest in the fantasy genre that has lasted into the present time. Through The Hobbit, Tolkien laid the foundations on which his legendarium would be built. In the novel, which includes the races of dwarves, elves, men, and goblins, Tolkien creates a new type of hero that defies the tradition image of a heroic character while still keeping a handful of the traditional heroic traits intact (Clark 42). The race he has invented to fulfill
“Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout as you did in Rome. Do your worst, for I will do mine!”
