Forgiveness and compaction is one of the main themes within The Crucible. Most of the people in The Crucible do not need to forgive others but rather themselves. The Crucible took place in 1953, in an era where men had power over women. It is a fictional story on the Salem witch trials that took place in Massachusetts. Arthur Miller took Abigail and Elizabeth Proctor in this play and portrayed them with drastic roles. John Proctor was the main man with the influence over the people of Salem. The people in the small town all like John Proctor because he is a man of truth and integrity.
