The spelling of certain words shows the genuine feelings and emotions of the characters in the novels set in the the 1960s with the contrast of formality. Just from this one excerpt from the novel we can notice that the fluidity of emotion in Charlie is one that almost feels nostalgic of one of our own moments in life, his use of a metaphor comparing it to “a lick of ice cream. A Flavour of grace.” Shows such a common experience for a fictional character can feel so human and genuine that it's quite an immersive experience for not just the reader but Jasper himself. In the book Nightjohn by Gary Paulsen, he reveals a theme throughout the book of “never take anything for granted.” This theme is shown in may places within the book. For example the text state's,” I swear- if Clel doesn’t stop buying hands we won't have any money left for dresses” (Paulsen 21). Mrs. Waller does not like when her husband Clel buys slaves because that limits the amount of money she will have in order to buy her dresses. This idea of loneliness is described through the horses that have been without companionship for so long, which leads into a overwhelming connection these animals share upon meeting the speaker and his friend. As a reader, the connection can be inferred when the speaker states, “I would like to hold the slenderer one in my arms, for she has walked over to me and nuzzled my left hand” (line 15-17). This emotional connection is one of many reasons critics love Wright and his work. According to literary critic, Brian Green, “A Blessing” is “ an uneven performance. Its emotional force, as it dramatizes a mind apprehending its own unconscious, has been construed as bordering on
When IT is trying to pull in Charles, he resists much more in the book and does not fall into the rhythm of it as quickly. Small details can completely change the mood of a story, for example in the movie the Happy Medium is an energetic man, while in the book, the Happy Medium is a tired woman. Another showing of more details in the book is when it says things like, “Meg turned slowly to face a mountain reaching so high into the sky that its peak was lost in a crown of puffy white clouds. From the trees at the base of the mountain came a sudden singing of birds. There was an air of such ineffable peace and joy all around her that her heart’s wild thumping slowed.”
Lee employs several literary elements in this passage to convey the emotions and themes of the novel.
While trying to visualize the painting, Charlie’s thinking made me feel sad and alone. The author had the chance to have Charlie say that the painting made her feel sad but instead she had Charlie dig deep into her heart and communicate with the readers. Later on in the book, Charlie discovers the reasoning behind Ariel’s dark paintings. Another scene that Glasgow conveys is when Charlie receives appalling news. This part of the book was an immense turning point that was full of a silent chaos.

The theme of the book Nightjohn by Gary Paulsen is fight for freedom and equality for all. This is the theme of Nightjohn because Nightjohn states “There be lots of letters, and each one something right. At the start of the story, the writer uses words that have positive connotations, creating a happy and positive diction. Stevenson says, “Even on Sunday, when it veiled its more florid charms and lay comparatively empty of passage the street shone out in contrast…” (2). This makes the readers understand quickly what the characters are feeling. This causes the reader to recognize the happiness the character is feeling at the moment. It also shows that the character tries to stay happy when possible, as this is one of his morals.
Notably, words like “zest” (line 4) and “frenzy” (line 13) leave the reader with a feeling of wild excitement,
The fact the author is capable of that is pretty brilliant. One thing that I find very stimulating is the title of the book “The perks of being a wallflower” is that is describes the book in such a good but not yet revealing way. By using the word “wallflower” we understand, yes, it’s about a character that stays in the background with a low profile. But “The perks of being…” is an invitation to Charlie’s life.
