“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” was not the first crime show to hit the TV screens and it certainly is not the last. In response to its popularity and growing franchise, a controversial term was introduced in courts and through the media. It is called the CSI effect. The CSI effect has been closely defined as a trend that claims, through watching crime-related programmes such as “CSI” or “Law and Order”, the public, mainly people completing jury service, have their views about forensic evidence influenced. This primarily creates preconceived beliefs which allegedly affects the criminal justice system in many ways.

Science has come a long way over the years. It has helped countless every day struggles and cure diseases most commonly found. What you don’t hear about however is the advancement of forensic science. Forensic science has helped solve countless cases of murder, rape, and sexual assault. In the case of John Joubert, it helped solve the murders of three young boys with one small piece of evidence that linked him directly to the crime.
If you ever watched TV crime fighting shows like CSI, NCIS, Law and Order, and Bones, you see that these shows put forensic science on a high pedestal when the truth is these TV shows misrepresent the forensics profession in some major ways. Here are some myths that are spread to the public and what everybody believes forensic science is. One myth is that these forensic scientists are making tones of money. The truth is they are not compensated nearly as well as you’d think they’d be The national average for a medical examiner is around $45,000. While forensic engineers end to be paid a little more, about 79,000 a year in some states.
Forensics and the field of Anthropology Imagine a world where criminals run freely. Detectives and police officers collect evidence the same way as they do today, but there is one main difference. Science is not used. Due to the lack of scientific analysis, there would not be a lot of useful evidence. Thieves would keep stealing, murders would keep killing and drug traffickers would continue dealing.

Discovery is a formal and informal exchange of information between the prosecution and the defense. The importance of discovery is to ensure that the adversary system does not give one side an unfair advantage. When it comes to discovery there are two types of evidence. Exculpatory, which is any evidence that may be favorable to the defendant at trail either by tending to cast doubt on the defendant’s quilt or by tending to mitigate the defendant’s culpability, thereby potentially reducing the defendant’s sentence, and impeachment evidence, which is any evidence that would cast doubt on the credibility of a witness.
Firstly visual examination and presumptive testing were conducted to determine the state of evidence and whether the sample contained any useful information in a forensic sense. Throughout this process biological samples of bloodstains, semen and saliva were screened. Throughout this visual examination and presumptive test stage a small amount of semen was found on the underwear found at the crime scene. Also on all the evidence items small amounts of bloodstains were identified to positive presumptive testing results, these were extracted with Chelex® DNA extraction.
Theory: Criminal justice 2 represents reasonable descriptions of reality. This theory approach tries to categorize and classify events in order to recognize the reasons of events, to forecast the way of future events and to know how and why these events take place. It speaks to a sensible and educated figure concerning why things are as they seem and to clarify their underlying nature and importance. The era of hypothetical clarifications is the thing that recognizes a theory of simply an accumulation of war stories and precisely documented encyclopedic accounts. Theory inquires: What is the purpose of the majority of this?
