Then Atticus and Heck Tate show up to kill the dog. When Heck is holding the gun this is when he says he can't shoots and he blames it on the reason that he can’t shoot that well. But the real reason Heck doesn’t shoot that dog because the dog is an example of racism. As the Sheriff in town Heck doesn’t stop racism so why stop by shooting the dog. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird and Of Mice And Men, almost most of the characters lie about something. People lie even if they’re innocent because they want to protect themselves from being an outcast. Calpurnia lies about being able to read, Dolphus Raymond lies about being an alcoholic, and even worse, Mayella lies about Tom Robinson raping her. All of these false accusations lead to consequences and the only reason these people did this is because they’re too worried about their social standing in their community and they don’t want to be looked at any differently than anybody else.
To Kill A Mockingbird To Kill A Mockingbird is about a lawyer named Atticus who chooses to defend a African-American man named Tom just as equally as he would defend a white man in a court room. This novel takes place in the 1930's when there was racism going on between blacks and whites. Atticus is a person in the novel who choose to learn to understand others. By showing that he does this, his quote said “ You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” In this novel there are a couple of people who have trouble understanding people, not understanding people, and doing a little bit of both.
Atticus is fed up with the racism and decides to take a step up, “‘Cry about the simple hell people give other people — without even thinking. Cry about the hell white people give colored folks, without even stopping to think that they’re people too’” (Lee 269) Atticus is trying everything to make people realize that what they are doing is

Quote 1: “I felt like I was a king, like I was better than them.” –3rd-grader The quote is similar to something that happens in the novel: Both Jane Elliott and Harper Lee make a point. When two groups are separated in someway one always acts better than the other. In Jane Elliott's experiment she made the third graders believe that the blue eyed people were better, than the brown eyed people.
In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout and Jem grow up and learn, over a couple years, that the world is not as forgiving as it once seemed. Men are condemned based on the color of their skin and children are attacked in means of revenge. Harper Lee’s purpose in describing Atticus the way he does in To Kill A Mockingbird is directly used to convey the theme in the story. As Atticus is described as being one who does not judge or think differently about people based on their race, gender, or religious beliefs it is used by the author to establish the theme of innocence. This comes as Atticus is just so kind to everyone around him, no matter their background, it even has Miss Maudie even talking about him as being just so consistent and holding no grudges and due to the author making Atticus be seen this way it shows off the theme of innocence as when Atticus will defend a black man in court and Scout gets picked on at school she does not understand why due to her innocence.
