In our class we have been reading the book "To Kill a Mockingbird." In the story a character named Atticus says a quote, "shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit' em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird" (119). A character that shows a similarity with this quote is Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson is an African American who works in Alabama, and he is being accused of rapng a white women named Mayella Ewell. I believe that Tom Robinson relates well with Atticus' quote because he is being accused of a crime that he didn't commit. He is also like the mockingbird in the quote, because he is very nice to Mayella as said, "seemed like every time I passed by yonder she’d have some little somethin‘ for me to do—choppin’ kindlin‘, totin’

Prejudice in Maycomb County is alive and well, and in To Kill A Mockingbird, there are many victims of prejudice. To Kill A Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, is a beautifully and carefully orchestrated book that manifests the many struggles within society. The Curse of Prejudice Albert Einstein once said, “What is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right.” This quote demonstrates the ubiquitous plot in the novel on how people usually follow what others think instead of thinking for themselves. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee suggests that one of the significant ways to circumvent the prejudice that arises from deceiving appearances is by a personal connection to others. This is evidenced by Boo Radley, Mrs. Dubose, and Atticus Finch.

“Real courage is when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” is a quote in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This quote shows that although many characters within the movie faced hatred and judgment from those who did not agree with their actions, they still pursued what they believed to be morally right, rather than what the majority thought. To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the early 1930’s within the small town of Maycomb County. During this time period, the Great Depression was beginning to present itself. The prejudice that is demonstrated throughout the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee reveals how a community views certain groups of people. As one reads through the book To Kill a Mockingbird they see that sexism is revealed from the very beginning of the text. The author of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, points out, “Men’s stiff collars wilted by nine in the morning. Ladies bathed before noon, after their three o’clock naps, and by nightfall were like soft teacakes with frostings of sweat and sweet talcum powder,” (Lee 5).
In the book To Kill A Mockingbird and Of Mice And Men, almost most of the characters lie about something. People lie even if they’re innocent because they want to protect themselves from being an outcast. Calpurnia lies about being able to read, Dolphus Raymond lies about being an alcoholic, and even worse, Mayella lies about Tom Robinson raping her. All of these false accusations lead to consequences and the only reason these people did this is because they’re too worried about their social standing in their community and they don’t want to be looked at any differently than anybody else.
“‘Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.’” (119) To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in a small town called Maycomb county, located in Southern Alabama. “It’s a sin to kill a Mockingbird.. (119)” This is a quote from the renowned book ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ said by the character Atticus Finch to the main character's brother Jem Finch. Atticus says this to Jem because he doesn't want him to shoot the innocent birds or things. The Scout Law states that a boy scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. These are twelve words that were pounded into my head from the time I started in scouts. Not all these words have had significant meaning to me, none the less I have tried to live my life by them. I could sit here and write an essay about what all these words mean to me. That, however, isn 't what 's been asked, so I’ll talk about three of these words.
In the novel To A Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows that Prejudice is evil, and affects everyone whether or not they are a victim of it. One of many quotes that supports this claim would be when, Tom Robinson, a black man actused of rape, says he felt sorry for Mayella, a white girl that was supposedly raped by Tom. The author writes, “Yes, suh. I felt right sorry for her, she seemed to try more’n the rest of ‘em-” (Lee, p.224)
People judge each other based on how they act in society. One tends to act like the majority of society for fear of being outcasted. This pertains to a mockingbird because it only sings other birds’ songs. It doesn’t have it’s own song and it is only characterized by what the other birds sing. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird,by Harper Lee, the title serves as a metaphor for the killing of innocence.
