Shortness Is A “Weakness”
The book I am reading is Travel Team, by Mike Lupica. I really have enjoyed this book so far because it’s about the sport I love, which is why I keep reading it. It’s about a kid named Danny Walker who is mainly known for his shortness, but that doesn’t stop him. He may be the tiniest kid on the court, but he plays just as good as the 6 foot post on his team. Danny loves basketball and every time he steps out on that court, he plays with his whole heart. Nobody or nothing can take that away from him. He would do anything to play on the “all-star” basketball traveling team, but his dreams are crushed when he doesn’t make the team because he is supposedly too short. I find the relationship between Danny and his father very interesting. His parents are divorced so he doesn’t see his dad very often, but if

He would do anything just to dribble a basketball. After reading just a part of this book, you will see how much Danny is dedicated and wants to go somewhere in life with his talent. He knows his strongest talent is his passing and since he knows he is the shortest boy, he uses that talent to be extraordinary. No one can stop him on or off the court. Danny is always the first one to the gym and the last one to leave, which shows how much he loves this sport. No matter his size, he was always be the one putting in the most effort and work. All in all, in the book Travel Team, by Mike Lupica, Danny is an unstoppable kid who is in love with the game of basketball and nothing can stop him. No one can crush his dreams nor his confidence. Danny proved that just because of your size, doesn’t mean you can’t be the best. His dedication proves that he is willing to sacrifice anything, which many people should learn from. Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you just stop and give up, you try harder the next time to accomplish your dreams and it could lead you to a successful
His small size allowed him to be easily picked up and tossed, which lead to John and Owen making up a flashy basketball move where they dunked a ball in under three seconds. Though at the time it just seemed to be a fun pass time, it turned out to be
Brent was now 16 years old, and was on the New Haven high school basketball team. In his Sophomore year, he had won the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award. He had faced his challenge of becoming a one armed basketball player, when he was 7 years old. Nastier remarks then can be thought about in the human language were spoken. Brent did not let this get to his head, with the undenying thought of going all-pro in the sport he loved.
Tremaine Townsend, born December 11, 1986 at Sharps Hospital, San Diego, CA, he is my only son, I decided to write about someone who is near and dear to my heart. I am very proud of my son he has been a blessing to me and has made me so proud to be a father. Tremaine was always an exceptional basketball player. He played first string his freshman and sophomore year at North High School here in Phoenix, AZ. During that time Tremaine grew maybe a couple of inches, from 5’10” to 6’0” tall, no major growth spurt but that summer Tremaine grew 6 inches, now that is major.
With the support of their families, William’s and Arthur’s motivation to accomplish this goal led them to fantastic high school basketball careers. From viewing the film, I found that I share William’s and Arthur’s determination. William, for his entire high school career, braved a 180 minute round trip commute to school and back. He spent three whole hours almost every day in transit to attend one
Mike Lupica uses Jayson to show readers that changing is hard but eventually is rewarding. A day after basketball practice Jayson gets on a bus and rides to Percy and goes to footlocker and tries to steal a pair of shoes. Jayson showed courage and anguish after he stole the pair of shoes. It is courageous to steal a pair of shoes but is it worth it to give up the life you had before for a pair of shoes? Jayson showed that basketball is truly important to him, but maybe if it was not as important he wouldn't have gotten caught and he could be playing with his old team
“I will never be satisfied!” Many athletes may have heard this statement once or twice in their athletic careers from their coaches, but to hear it come from a parent is very unexpected. In the documentary Trophy Kids, follows the story of five families whose life is centered on their child’s success in sports. It goes behind the scenes of what each of the parent’s strategies are in order to push their child to the next level of becoming the next all-star athlete.

The little kid is one of the only elementary kids on the team. All the older kids are a lot better than him. He is scared to do anything because he doesn’t want to make a fool of himself in front of the bigger kids. He spends the rest of the practice only doing minimal activities and not showing off his true potential. The kid’s father picks him up from the practice.
For starters, if you keep your enthusiasm high even when you continue to fail over and over, then eventually you will be likely

Of course, only Flick is able to imagine them as such, which tells how much Flick is rivetted in the past. Thus, the variety of uses of figurative language show the reader what is going on in Flick’s mind, and the reader sees that Flick is eluding into fantasies about former victories. Updike depicts Former athlete to the current gas station attendant, allowing the reader to sympathize with Flick’s partiality for reminiscing. Updike employs a number of words regularly linked with sports to imply the former athlete’s skill. Words such as “runs,” “bends,” “stops” and “cut off” (Updike) are strong action words often used to express actions in basketball.

“The Hero’s Journey” is term for a narrative style that was identified by scholar Joseph Campbell. The narrative pattern would depict a character’s heroic journey, and categorize the character’s experiences into three large sections: departure, which contained the hero’s call to adventure, fulfillment, which consisted of the hero’s initiation, trials, and transformation, and finally the return. The novel The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan investigates the relationship and actions of four Chinese women and their daughters. The character Lindo Jong’s youth in China exemplifies the three part heroic journey in how she leaves the familiar aspects in her life, faces trials in the home of her betrothed, ..... Departure:
