This paper focuses on the role of the U.S national government by explaining the tensions, and conflicts that should be addressed, as well as the implications that continue to arise the dilemmas in the U.S contemporary society. Maintaining order is the oldest, and most significant role in the U.S government, establishing the rule of law to preserve life and protect private property. However, there are many issues that originate from the role of government, for instance, opposing political beliefs that hold different set of values of freedom, order, and equality. This example is the most common conflict that continues to occur today, however, there are countless of more problems existing in the U.S government. It’s important to recognize the …show more content…
By identifying these components of the role of the U.S national government, we are able to acknowledge the arising conflicts that need to be resolved, in order to create an effective improvement in America’s national government. In the United States, the purpose of the government is to maintain law and order, provide public goods, and promote equality. Maintaining law and order is defined as, “establishing the rule of law to preserve life and protect property” (Janda, Berry, Goldman, Schildkraut, and Manna, 2017, 8). This regulates the behaviors of the citizens in society which is significant in today’s world due to the violent events that have been occurring, such as the Las Vegas shooting. Citizens want to feel as if they are being protected by the U.S government, but in order to do this, citizens must be willing to give up a small portion of their freedom to preserve law and order. For example, Americans support for stricter gun control increased resulting from the mass shooting that happened in Las Vegas. This demonstrates that people would feel safer if there were more restrictions on individual gun ownership, which represents the government means of, “guaranteeing people’s survival” …show more content…
A major problem that has dominated the world in today’s society is the development of mass media. The mass media is said, “to be divided into two types: print and broadcast,” but the advancement of the internet became problematic. The internet allows the public to view the news by providing information between the citizens, and government faster than any other source. Consequently, this resulted in the decline of newspapers while more people began reading online. The negative effect of the internet is described as, “a wild west atmosphere” in which individuals may post whatever they wish online, “without professional, organizational, or legal concerns about its source” (Janda, Berry, Goldman, Schildkraut, and Manna, 2017, 148). News reports are based on current events; however, some news may be, “filtered through the ideological biases,” of the media owners, editors, and reporters themselves (Janda, Berry, Goldman, Schildkraut, and Manna, 2017,163). The question that should be considered when dealing with mass media is whether it’s true or not. Additionally, the problem that is also common with the use of the internet is the lack of network security. In today’s world, many people have the ability to hack into one’s computer obtaining their information, leading to identity theft. This issue must be addressed because it’s one of the components of the government’s
The rule of law is reflected as a core principle of our nation and vital to ordered liberty. To rightly govern the American rule of law it is essential to acknowledge the continuity between the American Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. The United States of America “government” is framed by these two important documents. The principles of the Declaration of Independence constitute the foundation of the government based on the universal equality of all human beings, and the U.S. Constitution founds the political process that is to be followed by the elected officials in governing the people. One cannot be without the other; both are essential for a stable government.
Government, the foundation of any civilization, defines both the life of its citizens as well as a tone of the country. Cicero, a roman politician and philosopher, wrote The Republic and The Laws shortly before the fall of the roman empire, which contained proposals to help fix the crumbling empire and outline justice within a democratic government. The Preamble to the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, unlike cicero's works, were written at the genesis of the United States. They, too, however, outline the basis for a just society, founded on written law, as opposed to its natural existence. Cicero’s The Republic and The Laws outlines many aspects of modern government, many of which the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution meet, and some of which they fall short of!
These things keep the people in line so the government can have
Like Jefferson said, the purpose of the American government is to keep its citizens safe and to protect our pursuit of happiness among other unalienable rights. This is important because without a government who 's goal is to protect its citizens, we would probably be living in a very corrupt state right now, especially if checks and balances weren 't in place to ensure that all branches of government have equal power. This is why I believe that the purpose of government is to keep its citizens safe and to protect our pursuit of happiness among other unalienable
Without the concern of defense or sell protection, individuals are able to live in security. Jefferson offers the purpose of government. It exists to acid in the well-being of both the nations and it citizen. Government exists to control the lives of citizens. A government must establish
Over the course of the United States’ history as an independent nation, the federal government has made decisions that have fulfilled and neglected the goals set forth in the Constitution. Although the present-day American government under Trump has been the center of controversy, our leaders are fulfilling the goals set forth in the Constitution according to their interpretation of it. Akin to the Trump administration, I advocate for a limited government, which is what our Founding Fathers envisioned when they crafted the Constitution. Between the three branches of the national government, strides have been taken to achieve the objectives outlined specifically in the Preamble. In the case of Pavan v. Smith, the Court ruled on June 26
The national and state government are necessary to keep both governments in check. In today’s politics the topics range from abortion, gun control, immigration policy, universal tuition, universal healthcare, legalization of marijuana, water control, school testing,
One hundred years ago nobody heard about the news or current events from Facebook or the newest tweet. Until fairly recently the most up to date news had to be heard through the grapevine or read in a newspaper. Since the creation of the internet and the mass media that comes with it, information can now be spread all the way across the world in the time it takes to hit the enter button on a computer or phone and upload it to the internet. Some people think that this is a bad thing because so many things that are uploaded can be either false information or simply information that is misleading and could teach individuals the wrong thing. However, if mass media is used in the right way it can be beneficial to the accessibility of valuable information,
By allowing the judicial branch to interpret the law so that the executive branch can implement and enforce it, the United States government has found a way to combat this issue caused by divided government. Though divided government has been known to create problems, they can be overcome. Solutions such as these can keep the government functioning
It is to establish institutions, offices, procedures, duties, and structures that persist from one assembly to another that are not just customs. It is at that point that we begin to get things like laws, and paid agents and officials, whose jobs continue beyond transient assemblies. We also get taxes, standing armies, and professional law enforcers. Such pooled powers are generally exercised by delegating them to some members of the society to act as agents for the members of the society as a whole, and to do so within a framework of structure and procedures that is a government. No such government may exercise any powers not thus delegated to it, or do so in a way that is not consistent with established structures or procedures defined by a basic law which is called the constitution.
"If government is to serve any purpose it is to do for others what they are unable to do for themselves." (Lyndon Baines Johnson). The federal government has a very important role in the lives of US citizens. I believe that the main purposes of government is to maintain social order, provide public services, provide national security.
The United States of America as an explanation of a modern republic displays the relationship between government, leaders, and citizens. This taxonomy of the United States builds upon its fundamental core value: the individual. The capitalization of the words, “Government,” “Men,” and “People” imply that these discrete categories are both significant and of the same intertwined typology with the people being what give “power” to the men and subsequently the government. It must not be understood in reverse where government is the omnipotent class, because the laws themselves explain that it is the “consent” of the People that instill government with its ruling power. That is not to shroud the importance of the governments role on the people; the term “consent” implies that this is truly consensual on both sides.
The American government has various components, one of those components is politics. Politics is inexorable, politics is what manages conflict when there is disagreements of who shall have the power to rule and what policies should be made. The government without politics would affect everyone. In addition, another component of our government is democracy, our government is a government by the people, there are two types of democracy’s, direct democracy and representative democracy. A direct democracy which includes mostly all of the citizens most of the time joining one another in meetings to discuss and debate various topics and issues.
Furthermore, having rules not only keeps things in balance, but also maintains order within a society. It keeps from rebellions happening and maintains peace. Another reason why government is necessary is because it states the rights that a citizen has. Obviously we have the Bill of Rights which state what our rights are, but due to the many changes in the 21st century and our ever evolving country, citizens have been given the right to same sex marriage and to oppose abortion and euthanasia.
They want to establish justice. Establishing justice is needed in making sure that everything is fair for everyone. They want to insure domestic tranquility. This means that everyone feels safe and not scared of their lives. They also want to secure the blessings of liberty to everyone as individual and everyone’s property, this means they want to give everyone tranquility, defense, general welfare and liberty (“Law Enforcement and Protection”).
