Everyday, around the world, adolescents are subjected to harassment by their peers. This disregard for the dignity of others is labeled “peer victimization.”The academic essay “Bullying Among Students and Its Consequences on Health'' by Barbara Houbre et al. describes many different aspects of this topic, from who is more likely to perform these actions, to its effects on the victims. The fiction novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding contains countless examples of this fascinating phenomenon.
There are certain traits that make individuals more likely to be the perpetrators or the victims of bullying. Houbre et al. explains it wonderfully, saying “children attach more importance to traits that characterize them as bullies (e.g., traits of temperament like impulsive, extroverted, conceited, leader, and physical traits like strong) than to other traits” (20). Bullies often describe themselves as the traits previously mentioned and victims (most of the time), are in juxtaposition to them. The trait of “‘strong”’ is displayed in Lord of The Flies when Jack says “We're strong--we hunt!” (Golding 91). Another trait, that of leadership, is demonstrated when Ralph states “[t]There aren't any grownups. We shall have to look after ourselves.” (Golding 33). Here, Ralph is taking charge and asserting authority over the other

As Houbre puts it, “This kind of aggression can be direct or it can be expressed in words…, via physical contact…, or by way of social” (Houbre et al. 3). Here, she lists all the possible ways someone could be tyrannized. A prime example of aggression being expressed via physical contact is found in Golding’s novel, when the boys surround Robert and beat him, moving “in and round. Robert squealed in mock terror, then in real pain. ‘Ow! Stop it! You're hurting!’” (Golding 114). Even after Robert has told the other boys to stop, they continue to hurt him which is an example of peer
1 Where do humans fit in among the other races of Middle-Earth? Are humans a “good” race? As we have seen, the various races shown in Middle-Earth each demonstrate very specific invariable characteristics. Human goodness does vary, however.
Bullying is a harmful thing that nobody should be a victim or attacker of. In the book “Lord of the Flies” the main characters are Piggy, Jack, Simon, and Ralph. Piggy looks different than the other boys and has issues that affect his lifestyle. The articles “Bullying in Early Adolescence by Dorothy L. Espelage.” and “Online Identity by CommonLit Staff.” supports the idea that having the issues he has can cause bullying by other youth to make themselves feel better and for entertainment.

Lord of the Flies Would you get involved to make something right when it has already gone too far to be fixed? In Lord of the Flies by Wiliam Golding, a group of boys end up stranded on a deserted island without being able to contact anyone for help. While the boys are there, they decide that they need to set rules in order to survive, but once a chief is elected, some of them get hungry for power and turn to violence in order to obtain it. Some boys can not do anything to help, but instead they picked a side and followed in the leader's footsteps. Similarly, the poem “Picture of Childhood” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko takes place with children rushing in order to see a fight that was taking place, and once they arrive at the scene, they are left

“They understood only too well the liberation into savagery that the concealing paint brought” (Golding 172). In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, savagery can be seen through many examples — murder, discord, ritualistic and violent sacrifices, and language. The boys in Lord of the Flies acted savagely and immorally due to biological factors because it is human nature to turn on each other. There are Biblical allusions in the novel that prove that the immorality of the boys is deep-seated. “Aren't you afraid of me?
Lord of the Flies Essay “What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or savages? (Golding 75).
Human Nature: The Progression of the Psyche Through Trauma in Lord of the Flies The great philosopher Plato believed in a tripartite division of human nature. He developed this opinion as a way to explain why people in politics had different motivations than others. Plato believed there was a relationship between the soul and his ideal city, so he chose to divide the soul into appetitive, spirited, and rational. These parts represent the artisans, auxiliary forces, and guardians respectively in his city that were the three types of citizens.
Envision this: you’re a young schoolboy on an island with other boys your age, no parents, and a beast. What could this beast possibly be though? In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, young schoolboys have run away from their homes to fend-off rules and wind up coming in contact with a beast. This beast evolves throughout the story and appears to symbolize a multitude of things.
6 When a child turns to bullying, there is almost always a cause and origin to this behavior. 10, 8, 6, Studying the psychology of these children, the impulse to exhibit this dominance has been connected to many factors: with the lack of affection, abuse, and poor role models, the lack of control in their lives can be accommodated by bullying. 3 Vulnerable individuals are a satisfactory outlet for their emotions; moreover, they seek dominance through the humiliation of those who most likely have no one to come to their defense. 10, 5 Likewise, Twain observes similar behaviors in individuals who pursue superiority, revealing humanities flaws from their tactics. 10, 2, 4
Lord of the Flies is a passage into the very existence of humanity. The very last part of the book is full of rage and violence. The violence could be blamed on the lack of vital nutrients the boys where facing but more likely the motives of Jack and his party is related to the emotional impact of their stay on the island. The impact of the island and lack of adults lent to the overall outcome of their stay. Starting out the group of boys were scattered around the island and in tiny huddles of boys.
In this case, even Ralph has been affected by this tribal mentality and even though he always talks about being civilised. He too regresses into savagery as he was “fighting to get near, to get a handful of that brown vulnerable flesh. He also felt “the desire to squeeze and hurt was overmastering", which shows Ralph to be more drawn into inhuman actions, such as the murder of Simon and that his sense of civilisation had been lost at this moment due to the violence on display. Furthermore, the descent of the boys is finalised by Golding's description of them when he writes the quote "anonymous devils faces". This is because the boys are shown to have become unrecognisable from their past selves and by being described as devils, an image
Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. This only tells us that bullying can lead to difficulty that a certain children may experience and will have either short or long term problem. “Bullying has long been tolerated as a rite of passage among children and adolescents, but it has lasting, negative consequences and cannot simply be ignored.” Committee chair Frederick Rivera, MD.
Bullying in Schools What seems fun and harmless for some students, is painful and degrading to others. Bullying has been a critical issue around schools, but before it was not as dangerous and know as it is now. These do not means bullying was not happening, it means it was not taken into consideration by parents or teachers. They thought it was just peer pressure or a kids game, and sooner or later the kids would be friends again. At one point, bullies think it’s normal to be mean and abusive to other students.
Bullying is a widespread problem in our schools and communities and has a negative impact on students’ right to learn in a safe and secure environment without fear. It is a process in which one person repeatedly uses his/her superior strength or influence to mistreat, attack or force another person to do something (Van der Werf, 2014). Bullying or peer victimization is now recognized as a complex and pervasive problem (Beran, 2009). It is an ongoing problem that is not restricted by age, race, gender or class. This behavior generally takes one of four forms, physical such as assault, verbal which involves threats or insults, social which entails exclusion or rumor spreading, and cyber which includes aggressive texts or social network posts
