The social worker might assist this client based on psychodynamic theory by helping the client evaluate their personal emotions and their unconscious and conscious behaviors. Using this type of perspective the social worker can help the client see how they are coping with their emotions for example for Anthony using rationalization as his defense mechanism, though he may be choosing this defense mechanism unconsciously.
