Importance of VO2 max VO2max is important, physiologically because it determine the volume of oxygen that is consumed by the tissue which is dependent on the volume of blood that is flowing to that particular region of the body. (Kenny et al., 2015). VO2max determine the efficiency of the body in meeting the demands of the cells. In order of the body to meet the needs of the muscle during intense exercise, the lung and flow of blood must be working efficiently. The will ensure that cells have access to the oxygen required to sustain exercise. The VO2max is a good indication of a person’s overall health because it looks at the respiratory and cardiovascular system and their overall efficiency. It also relates to athletes who participate in aerobic activities such as long distance runners. A higher VO2max allows athlete to run for longer duration and intensity compared to those with a lower VO2max.

We tend to have a higher VO2max in younger individuals in comparison to someone that is older. For example the relative VO2 for the subject 23 years of age is 40.9 ml/kg/min while the subject 28 years of age had a slightly lower relative VO2 (39.8 ml/kg/min). The level and the frequency of exercise training will also influence the VO2 level obtained during this test. Individuals that perform high intensity exercise on a regular basis will have higher VO2 compared to untrained individual. For instance the 23 years old subject perform moderate level of exercise for 30 minutes/day, 3 times a week. In comparison the 28 years old subject perform cardio for 30 minutes/day, 2 times a week. This subject also rates the intensity as low to moderate. This difference in training, can also explain the difference in
