Volleyball is one of the most popular activities for women in the world today. Millions of girls participate in this sport during their high school career, and many also play club volleyball in the off-season. Although both high school and club programs involve the same overall sport, each league has certain aspects that set it apart. High school volleyball and club volleyball differ in terms of teams, scheduling, and rules. The first major difference between high school and club volleyball is the makeup of the teams. For high school, members of the team are also classmates: the JV team includes freshmen and sophomores and the varsity team includes juniors and seniors. Sophomores can be moved up to the varsity team if needed, but players …show more content…
In high school, players have some games on their home court and some at other schools throughout the area. The location of each game is switched every year, and the days for regular season games are usually Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. High school teams also have up to four tournaments during the year and one tournament over the summer. For example, Flanagan-Cornell High School’s volleyball team plays in the Manteno, Brimfield, Conference, and Regional Tournament during the year and the Lincoln Land Tournament over the summer. Practices for the high school volleyball are during the week, so in regular season they are usually scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30-5:30. The JV and Varsity teams are split by using two different gyms. The overall high school season runs from the beginning of August until the end of October. On the other hand, club volleyball uses a different scheduling system. Games are always played on the club’s home court; at Illini Elite, for instance, the Expansion program always plays at the Illini Elite Warehouse in Bloomington. All games are combined into tournaments over the weekend, and teams are split through a morning and afternoon wave on each day. The club volleyball season runs from the beginning of December until the beginning of

This first year of multiple-class basketball tournaments in Indiana was a historic one. History was made because for the first time in IHSAA history, there were four basketball state champions (“IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament…”). Those champions were Pike High School for class 4A, Indianapolis Cathedral High School for 3A, Alexandria High School for 2A, and Lafayette Central Catholic High School for A (“IHSAA Boys Basketball State Champions”). After this first year of multiple-class basketball in Indiana, the IHSAA board of directors reviewed the class system again.
The Union County Vocational Technical Schools (UCVTS) should have a sports program for students to join. Some students turn down the opportunity to come to UCVTS because no sports opportunities are available. Not many extracurricular activities are available besides clubs on campus. Also, students who attend UCVTS and play sports for their local hometown school can’t enjoy the same school spirt from a hard fought victory as the students who attend the hometown school. Students should play for the school they attend.
“A study shows the average Division I football player already spends 44.8 hours a week on gridiron duties.”(“College”). With the extended season, athletes will lose time away from their academics and it will increase the possibility of injuries. With the added games the players will be away from class. The traveling and extra practices will put players in a tough position to focus on both their academics and athletics. The games and practices will give opportunity for players to get hurt.
Tying back to the sparsity of universities, this prevents collegiate teams from having lots of game experience. A collegiate team may play anywhere from five to seven games in a season whereas a high school team may
While high school sports offer students a place to develop passions and an outlet for leadership and competitiveness, the high school sports system has many problems. However, one of these problems stand out the most, in my opinion. The biggest problem in high school sports is the unfair allocation of resources. Many sports, such as volleyball, face prejudices as far as resources goes. Secondary sports, such as soccer, basketball, and cheer, are often forced to share gyms and equipment, which takes away from practice time and hinders an athlete's focus.
If I was the coach, I could have several ways to try to win and change it up a little bit. Even though everyone normally knows where they are playing because they always play there, I would ask were they want to play and put them there for practice and see how they do and if they do good then maybe they will get to play there in a game it won 't hurt anything. Right now the varsity and Junior variety split up for practice but I think we should stay together, if we stay together the coaches have a better opportunity to see who has the ability to play varsity or who can play where, to see who is good and bad. The coaches should push us harder at practice and maybe we can win more.
Some teenage athletes may consider having your mom cheering for you in the stands is embarrassing, but what if your mom was on the court as your coach? This is actually the situation for 16 year-old Sydney and 14 year-old Savannah Vach and their mother, and coach, Kim Vach. Kim Vach has been coaching for 28 years, her coaching career started at West Ridge Middle School. Currently, Vach is coaching the girls volleyball at Winter Springs High School, last season the team earned the title of number one team in Florida. They were also ranked 7th in the country.
According to Madisen Martinez “Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournaments require an extended period in which the student-athletes must miss school.” They skip class for the game to win tournament that they work so hard to get to. College Students Athletes is a full time job, they go to weight training to classes and then to the film room to the practice and finally to the game. (Martinez) The whole time they are getting ready for basketball and not much of school work.
High school offers many opportunities for students to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. These activities include athletics to the fine arts. A majority of students prefer sports such as football, basketball, and volleyball over theater and other fine arts. Some of the sports high school students have an opportunity to partake in have trouble gaining sufficient numbers of participants. Sports such as hockey, softball, and until recently, soccer, are not school sanctioned; therefore, some students are unable to participate due to a variety of factors.
Sophomore year volleyball has been by far the most obvious year of improvement and it has also been the most enjoyable because I got so much out of it and I also got close with a lot of the girls. It was good that not as many girls went out this year
Volleyball has been my passion since the sixth grade, I love it with all my heart, and could not imagine my life without it. This past summer I had the opportunity to attend the Concordia College volleyball camp in St. Paul with a few friends from Sartell. It has been sometime since I’ve participated in one of these camps, and I was a bit hesitant about going because I did not know what was expected of me. My mother had signed me up, as she believed that the skills I would learn would make me a better player, truth was, I was not so sure. I told my mom, “I won’t know anybody, and the girls there will be more experienced than me.”
Macy had played volleyball almost all her life. In fact, it was her favorite sport. She started playing at the rec level when she was about 7 years old. Macy played for Carbon Valley Recreation Center in Firestone, Colorado. Her mom coached her rec team from the year she started to this day.
