WSU Personal Statement

BACKGROUND Knowing the background of the job of interest not only provides an upper hand but an idea of what type of atmosphere it has been throughout the years. Knowing the history, key individuals, purpose statement and values, and mission statements can sometimes persuade applicants to apply for a job with the institution. Encountering this information has become much easier with the use of the internet and search engines. History “Texas A&M University and Prairie View A&M University were first founded as land-grant colleges in 1876,” years later the A&M system was established in 1948 by the Texas Legislature.

I am looking for more than just academics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During my four years at Northwood High School, I became involved in numerous academic and extracurricular activities. As a result, I have been recognized and honored for achievements both inside and outside of school. I realize that titles and academic achievements are limited, but some of the impact I have on my community and other people’s lives is what really matters. Therefore, I plan to continue my active involvement in extracurricular activities while I am a college student.

National Honor Society is known for their members with great grades and outstanding character. I personally believe that I would fit into this club wonderfully. Finishing with a cumulative GPA of 3.6 and a 4.0 GPA last semester. With grades being the most important thing to me, I take them very seriously.

Growing up, I attended a very family oriented school that has helped me to grow, by exposing me to people who perform care taking roles. My involvement in the National Honor Society and other activities helped me mature and required me to develop the four pillars of personal leadership, service, character, and scholarship that allow me to connect with different people outside of my peer group. Immersing myself in these social groups, guided me to fully commit to and carry out many responsibilities. Since the ninth grade, I have been a part of my high school’s basketball team, which has taught me leadership and enriched my communication skills. Being a member of high-school teams helped me understand that sometimes I need to drop the walls I keep in place to allow my team members and I to work together as one family.

Philosophy is the love of wisdom. The Greek roots of the word philosophy, “Philo” and “Sophos” mean love, and wisdom, respectively. If asked “What is success?” philosophers provide different answers, but acknowledge superior education as imperative to success. As SUNY Geneseo claims, “Engaging in philosophical thinking is essential to a superior liberal arts education.”

Wofford College is a prestigious liberal arts institution that has been consistently ranked as one of the best colleges in the Southeast. As someone who is interested in pursuing a career in the technology field of computer science, I believe that Wofford College's strong academic programs and supportive community make it the perfect place for me to achieve my academic and professional goals. First and foremost, Wofford College's computer science program is renowned for its rigorous curriculum and innovative approach to teaching. The program is designed to prepare students for the rapidly evolving field of technology, and it offers a wide range of courses that cover everything from programming languages and algorithms to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The faculty members are experts in their respective fields, and they are committed to providing students with personalized attention and support.

I would be extremely honored to be granted the opportunity of being a part of such an amazing sisterhood. My personal values line up with those of which Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. stand for. I strongly believe that public service throughout communities will result in a positive change throughout the world. Likewise, educational development is extremely important to me because the access to education in all levels enlightens individuals and allows them to achieve their goals and amplify their accomplishments. Additionally, I believe Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will help me grow more into the person I want to become, because I venerate all the qualities of a Delta women.

I am an active member in a wide variety of activities. I am very involved in 4-H and FFA. Through these clubs, I have participated in many community service projects. I work hard in the classroom and I’m very goal driven. I have a 3.14 GPA, and I strive to do better each and every day.

I would like to become an active member of Carrboro High School’s National Honor Society in order to benefit my community through service. I am immensely committed to serving and improving my community, as I have made distinctly clear with my 143 service hours. Through these service hours, I have focused on the improvement of the future community by helping disenfranchised refugee children coming from horrible living conditions in Western Africa, by teaching children about biology, chemistry, and scientific history, by preparing freshmen for their high school careers, by raising money to protect and aid voiceless animals hurt in car crashes and other human infringements, and by creating rain gardens, planting food crops, and decreasing Carrboro High School’s environmental

My teachers would describe me as a hard worker, dependable, and very helpful to others. I would describe myself as a person who likes to get involved in school activities, friendly, and very athletic. I am looking for a school that has enthusiastic teachers, teachers that will help me stay engaged, and will also give me the support in my subjects when I need it. Notre Dame Academy develops leadership in Catholic women. My grandmother, Maureen Miller, also went to Notre Dame for high school.

I am interested in Howard University because it is an HBCU that encompass the themes of cultural diversity and education. Your commitment to scholars ensures me that at your school I will be right at home. Since I intend on on going down a medical path, I know that Howard University will provide me with best resources to follow my dreams. As a child I was always interested in the worlds around me and how things worked. As a result I participated in a Summer Enrichment Program located at Indiana University in Bloomington.

With its dedicated faculty, diverse location, and vast network, USC's Marshall School of Business will help me prosper in the world of business! I hopefully intend to use these opportunities to its fullest potential by studying harder than I've ever studied-- USC is my "reach" school and I want to keep up with other students-- and soaking in SoCal culture to broaden my scope on business trends and life in LA. Because LA is such a diverse area, I am bound to gain insight on many different cultures, social classes, trends, and types of people, which will give me a unique, firsthand experience with communication and boost my overall knowledge! I plan on using this to help myself succeed in business and stand out when I apply for an internship

For years, I have dreamed of pursuing a career in psychology and living in Amsterdam. The exploration of the human mind and how it can be manipulated and the vibrant culture of the Netherlands capital are fascinating. VCU will help me obtain that dream. When I attended a VCU open house, I had every intention to major in psychology; however, I was instantly drawn to a mass communications major, advertising. It's a psychology based major that merges with creativity.

Transferring to Hofstra gave me an opportunity to relive the first day of my undergraduate career, stress and all. It was overwhelming at first, but I wanted to hit the ground running and join a group, volunteer, or do anything that would make me feel more like a member of the Hofstra community. I narrowed the number of organizations, programs, and Center’s down to a short list of the ones that reflected my interests and aspirations. I reached out to advisors, chairs, and directors, including Dr. Phillippi, the director of the Center for Public Archaeology and professor of anthropology. We met to talk about the department and about archaeology in general, which is when I learned he was accepting applications for the Center’s competitive internship.

As a child, I have always wanted to start or be part of a successful business. I plan to do this when I attend the University of Texas at Austin. During the first two years of college, I plan to gain experience through internships. Not only will my education help me acquire these internships, but will also aid me in excelling at them. Through these internships, I will truly be able to experience the business world in its full capacity.
