In Waxhaw, South Carolina, seventh president Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 of Scotch-Irish immigrants. He died on June 8, 1845 at the Hermitage, near Nashville, Tennessee. The Waxhaw area did not offer many opportunities for him to receive formal education, and what little was received was interrupted by the British invasion of the western Carolinas in 1780 – 1781. His mother and two brothers were killed around the end of the invasion, fixing a lifelong resentment towards England. Following the end of the American Revolution, he studied law in Salisbury, North Carolina. In 1788, he went to the western district of North Carolina, soon to become the state of Tennessee, as a prosecuting attorney. Some of Jackson’s military feats include defeating the Creek Indians, who were threatening the southern border while allied with Great Britain, and the Battle of New Orleans, where he forced stationed British troops to evacuate the city. Jackson lost the presidential election of 1824 to John Quincey Adams, due to a “corrupt bargain” between John Adams and Henry Clay. However, Jackson won the 1828 presidential election by an electoral vote of 178 for Jackson to 83 for Adams. The presidency of Andrew Jackson was in my opinion deffinetly was not the most successful, yet I believe President Jackson had good intentions in my for America. It was when he decided to take action where his mistakes were made. Starting with the Indian removal act, he addressed his actions as wanting to be swift and effective. I believe this is something that would look great on paper, but when I was time to take action it did not turn out the best for all involved. The plan was to obtain the land homeland of the Indians, in this Americans would gain more land.

One of the many unconstitutional thing he did was that he gave government jobs to his friends and the people that voted for him, also know as the spoils system. He also forced the natives out of their land because he wanted more land, the indians also had to walk 1000 miles to the oklahoma territories that is now oklahoma. Jackson, also called “Old Hickory” was a very bold proactive man in American history. From being a military hero and founding the democratic party to enacting the trail of tears and dismantling the of the Bank of the United States, the man and his legacy are a prominent topic for scholarly debate. Some believe he was a great president and some believe he was the worse president. But if you look at it from a moral perceptive or in the eyes of a foreigner, Jackson’s legacy was far more villainous than heroic.
