Was Andrew Jackson A Good President

He was a no holds barred president and he was going to succeed. He was firm strong and tough, a war hero against the British in 1812 and again against the Indians. (Hall pg 395) The Jackson presidency was said to be an age of a more democratic America. This was a president for the ordinary man.

In my essay I wrote about Andrew jackson and whether he was a good or bad president. And I decided to pick that he was a bad president here's why Now i will tell you about the best,worst,good and bad- Best - when he became major general because he won many battles for us and let us be free from the british. As commander and later major general of the Tennessee military, he maneuvered himself into important theaters during the War of 1812.

The first reason for Jackson being a bad president is that he used his power to get his way. He created the spoils system which allowed him to fire the current members of the government and hire whoever he wanted to. This meant that Jackson could give important government jobs to his friends and supporters. This could mean that an unqualified person could end up with a serious government job. Andrew Jackson also used the power of the veto to shut down bills that he did not agree with such as the 2nd National Bank.

He was a typical man with a hot head. He was someone many Americans could look up to. Jackson's presidency was the start of a change in the new world. A man outside the norms of what a president was, became the face of the United States.

The founders of the United States did their best to create a government that would not allow erroneous decisions to greatly harm the nation. They set a percent of presidents being politically sound and well-known; their beliefs for how the nation should be handled were essential to their campaign. President Andrew Jackson, however, did not follow this system, instead winning primarily by his personality and popularity amongst the common American. While his actions in office often appeared to be for the people, most had a hidden selfish side to them that he easily covered up. With the election of 1828, Jackson radically changed American politics, focusing them more on public appearance and personal character than on intelligence and political views, making personality just as, if not more important than the actual politics of a political term.

Andrew Jackson was seen as a common man the voice of the people by some. By others he was King Andrew, trampling the constitution and instigating tyranny. Jackson’s presidency impacted democracy, through his use of the veto power, and his claim of Clay creating a “corrupt bargain”, which is not a turning point for a rise in democracy despite him giving white male suffrage. During Jackson’s use of executive power weakened voice of the people.

He understood the people and their problems. Andrew Jackson also made people much more involved in the process of being elected. For instance, he wanted the people to watch him be inaugurated. Jackson reformed the government. He played a huge role in all white males being able to vote.

However, he abused this position of power and made several choices that were detrimental to the welfare and rights of the American people. Jackson implemented the spoils system on a national scale and had unofficial members of his cabinet who did not have to answer to Congress. After South Carolinians were upset by the Tariff of 1832 he was angry toward those who did not agree with it. He also destroyed the National Bank and authorized the Specie Circular.

Andrew Jackson, being a tyrant, abused his power in his time of presidency.   He was the 7th president, but before Jackson’s presidency, he had no political experience. One of the only things that really qualified him was the hardships he went through when he was younger. His father had died while Jackson was young and Jackson received the reputation as a “self-made man”, or an independent man.

Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.

Andrew Jackson was a tough man. He even went by the name of ‘Old Hickory’. Andrew Jackson was a terrible president, but also a good president. There are many reasons why Andrew Jackson was a bad president. These are only the few reasons that we all already know or they are major events stated in US history.

Andrew Jackson has been remembered as a ground breaking president, even being put on the $20. President Jackson was a controversial figure, doing many popular and unpopular things in his time. Although he is remembered as a hero from the war of 1812, he also caused the Trail of Tears and tried to destroy the National Bank. As a result, Jackson should not be put on the $20 bill. His actions have caused many misfortune showing that villains do exist.

Kaylah Jackson I think that Andrew Jackson was a great President. Andrew Jackson was a great President because of the thing he accomplished and did during his presidency. Andrew Jackson was able to laid the framework for democracy, paid off the national debt, gained new lands for America, strengthened relationships with foreign nations globally and issued a new currency during his presidency. Andrew Jackson created a spoils system to clear out elected officials in government of an opposing party and replace them with his supporters as a reward for their electioneering.

Andrew Jackson was president starting in 1824 and while he was in office, people had many different views on him. One of those views was that he exercised power as a total and absolute monarch. He was even given the nickname of “King Andrew the First.” Jackson should be viewed as an absolute monarch because instead of electing his cabinet, he appointed them, giving positions to his supporters. He also fired his whole cabinet, which only made people happy to see him as a tyrant.

My opinion on Andrew Jackson is that he was a brave man, great spokesmen, and he was intelligent. Jackson had a great military success along with a knowledgeable success in the law field and in time leading up to presidency. People know Jackson from leading his army and defeating the British, along with becoming a great and honorable leader. Jackson went to Military school when he was only a young 13 year old boy. His mother was a widow leaving him to do a lot of chores and responsibility to him.
