Although, Brutus is very loyal to his country and tells the citizens that he has killed Caesar for them. “I slew my best lover for the good of Rome, I have the same dagger for myself when it shall please my country to need my death” (8). Brutus tells the citizens that he has killed his best friend for the better of Rome. He tries to convince the citizens that killing Caesar is for the better of Rome. Brutus has the more persuasive trait as he is loyal to his country, not one man.

The fact that Brutus is a noble and loving man makes up for his mistakes. How Brutus is noble is that like any soldier back then and today, Brutus is willing to serve or die for his country. “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.” That quote shows us Brutus is willing to do anything for his country. This could be true, but Brutus would fit more into the tragic hero persona. Some of Brutus’s tragic flaws included trusting people too much, not listening to others that have more experience, and thinking about the people more than himself. All of these flaws ultimately led to Brutus becoming a coward and committing suicide. In act 3 scene 1 Brutus kills Caesar because he thinks he is doing it for the good of Rome. In reality, when he killed Caesar he just signed his death note, and he hurt Rome more than helped.

In addition, Brutus is the more prominent tragic hero from the story because he ends up obtaining more of the qualities listed by Aristotle than Caesar. In this list includes how he recognized his wrongdoing and took responsibility for it, which as I mentioned earlier in paragraph one is a deal breaker for my choice. The difference between Caesar that decides who is the tragic hero has to do with their last words from my point of view. Caesar dies kind of dramatically, in the 3rd person even, and was arrogant to the very end, allowing the conspirators to get too close for his safety as proven, and killing him. Brutus, however, died proclaiming how much he regretted his choice to stab his dear friend, and was more understanding of what he did wrong before he died over all.

He has realised his faults so clearly that he tells Caesar, the person he killed, to rest in peace. Brutus is definitely the tragic hero in this play because of the pity we feel for his realisation of his faults and ultimately his honourable
