“The distinctions between Virginians, Pennsylvanians, New Yorkers, and New Englanders are no more. I am not a Virginian, but an American!” yelled Patrick Henry (Goodreads 1). This quotation shows how the colonies were bound together because of the one idea they all shared in common: they did not want to be controlled and governed by the British Crown anymore. The American military fought for their country’s independence in a long, gruesome war with the British called the American Revolution. Why did this war happen though? What made the American Revolution unavoidable? The American Revolution was inevitable because the British wanted to get more money from and have more authority over the American colonies. This is evident because of the laws …show more content…
One of these wars, the French and Indian War, was between the American colonists and the French Canadians. This war had a huge impact on Britain’s economy because the British government had to spend large sums of money to pay for reinforcements in the colonies (Price 1).
In the mid-1700s, the French and the British colonists in America were fighting over a piece land that would help them control their settlements more efficiently and give them an advantage in the precious fur trade. This land was called the Ohio River Valley. Conflict broke out when the British army attempted to claim the valley again, and the British lost to the French (Deverell and White 96). When George Washington and his troops failed to take over the French territory in a second attempt in 1754, the French and Indian War began (Deverell and White 96). This war lasted for nine years and was a part of the Seven Years’ War that was being fought in England. It was between the French and the American colonists. Native Americans were also included in the war on both sides since the French and American colonists were allied with different American Indian tribes through trade relationships (Deverell and White 95). They both continued to fight each other over the Ohio River
France's expansion through the Ohio River brought conflict with Britain because of claims that those lands were British. The war started when Major George Washington went down to the Ohio River with the goal of delivering a message to a French captain, warning them to withdraw their French troops, although it was obviously rejected, therefore George Washington was told to build a fort near Pittsburgh. However, he was unsuccessful because the French attacked George, so he surrendered. Around two years later the British became allies with the Indians, and many Indian's abandoned their French allies.
Throughout the mid 18th century there was a big argument about land and power between the French and the British. This land included the upper land of the Ohio River Valley as well as the rest because the more land someone had the more power they also had. The reason why they were competing for this land was because the British were feeling threatened due to the fact that the French were taking away the land they felt were theirs by right. This also brought a feeling of threat to the British because the French were gaining power and control in trading. The start of the French and Indian War was caused by the dispute between the French and British about who was going to have more land since the more land someone had, the more powerful they were.
The French and Indian War altered the relations of the American Colonies and Britain through political, economic, and geographical issues. At the start of the French and Indian War the French owned a big majority of land but the during the war the French lost their land to the English. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 gave the English, the French land of North America (Doc A).
The French and Indian war (also known as the seven year war) marked a huge turning point in American relations with Great Britain. Prior to the war the British and the French were in conflict and it reached America and was know as the seven year war which was from 1754 to 1763. The British had neglected any involvement with the colonies affairs except maintaining their policies for mercantilism. After the war the British were in debt and the colonies relationship with the mother country was strained. The war ended the period of neglect and conflicts worsened greatly.
I am writing to answer some questions you asked about George Washington during your visit to our country. At the time of your visit, I did not know the answers to your questions, but now I do and am better prepared to answer them. From 1754 to 1763 the British and French were involved in a war known as the French and Indian War. The French and Indian War was fought to determine who got what land in North America. It was a long struggle that the British eventually won but at a huge financial cost.
The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War, was the fourth and final war between The French and The British. The war took place in 1754 and ended in 1763, actually making it a nine year war. The War started when the French attempted to claim the land between the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers and that sparked a fuse with the Virginia governor. To warn the French, the governor sent a lieutenant named George Washington, when he went to relay the message the French refused to cooperate and that left the British no choice but to get prepared to battle. The only way that the war ended in 1763 was because of the Treaty of Paris.
The American Revolution was a war fought by American colonies to gain independence from the British control. The American Revolution was caused by a series of events. It all started with the French and Indian War in 1754. At the end of the war, King George III issued the proclamation of 1763 which prohibited colonists to settle beyond the Appalachian Mountains, many colonists took great offense at this order. The war between Britain and France caused Britain to be deeply in debt and demanded tax from the colonies.
The French and Indian War was a war from 1754 to 1763 between the Kingdom of Great Britain and France in North America. The war extended to the world as part of the Seven Years War. It officially came to a close with the Treaty of Paris in 1763 and North America territories were divided to United Kingdom. Spain ceded Florida to the United Kingdom. France ceded Louisiana to the east of Mississippi River to the United Kingdom as compensation.
The American Revolution in 1776 was ultimately the birth of a new nation that would become a major influence in the world. Several factors combined to create an atmosphere conducive for revolution. First, the colonists felt that England restricted their trade and waterways. Second, the colonists were burdened by over-taxation. The colonists further felt these taxes were imposed without fair representation in Parliament.
The Seven Years ' War The Seven Years ' War was a long war over North America and its resources. Due to the two countries ' hunger for land the British and the French fighting for land and resources. Next the French built a base of operation at a very strategic location threatening the British and forcing the British to also create one but instead the British raided and took over the French 's fort. After that, the British planned to expand territories and drive out the French so the French burned down the British homes. In the end, the French and the British competed for trade, the British got mad and stole more than 100 French ships then raided the French
The main cause of the war was conflict between Britain and France over who had more rights to land in the Ohio River Valley. The French believed they had rights to the land because they “had explored and claimed a vast amount of land in the interior of North America, ranging from the mouth of the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes in the north to the Mississippi River and New Orleans in the south.” (Moore). Britain believes they have rights to the land because they had already “offered large land grants for settlement.” (Keenan), so when colonists discovered that the French had began building forts they sent soldiers
What Caused the American Revolution The American Revolution was a battle for leadership in the American colonies. At the time, England controlled nearly all aspects, mostly the political and economic, of the colonial lives. Their purpose was to strengthen England. The colonies wanted the freedom from all of the control because they were doing fine without England.
The French and Indian war, also known as the Seven Years’ war, was fought between France and Great Britain. It started because of French expansion into the Ohio Valley. This expansion created conflict
Was the American Revolution Avoidable? The Revolutionary War was avoidable because England could have not upset the colonists, and could have been fair to them, and the colonists could have not rebelled against the British. There is multiple ways either of these could have happened, such as England could have not taxed the colonists so unfairly. On the other side of the argument, the colonists could have not make revolution propaganda against Britain or destroyed Britains trade goods. To summarize, both sides could have done many things differently to avoid war.
The scope of slavery varied based on how practical and profitable slaves would be in that time period and location. Slavery had many impacts on society as a whole and influenced political, economic, and cultural aspects which all demonstrate the development of slavery in the 17th and 18th century. By the 17th century many Indians had been killed off by diseases and many white indentured servants no longer were willing to work (Foner, pg. 94). At first, the majority of slaves were sent to Brazil and the West Indies with less than 5% sent to the colonies (Foner, pg. 98).
