How FDR did this is by his “First New Deal.” It was a plan for implementing an economic recovery / relief for both the nation and its citizens. For President Roosevelt to do this, he needed to overcome criticisms by the leftists, again gain public confidence and stand his ground to new reform policies and legislation. FDR did not want his administration to be a failure, just as it did before he came into office with Republican Herbert Hoover’s Presidency.

When he took office in 1933, Roosevelt acted to stabilize the economy immediately and provide jobs and relief to the suffering citizens. In his acceptance speech, Roosevelt addressed the problems of the depression by telling people, “First of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” His speech gave many people hope and confidence that they had elected a president that was not afraid to take bold steps to solve the nation’s problems.

The New Deal was successful because of gave jobs to many jobless people and ending the banking crisis. A newspaper article said that U.S banks are unstable. People go to the bank to get their money. The banks don’t have enough money to give to everyone. Police are called in to keep peace.

As the economy was stabilizing and the unemployment rates and GDP were beginning to rise back up to normal levels, he fell under criticism for putting too much power in the government’s hands for controlling the economy.

The New Deal created many new opportunities and did many great things for America. There are many reasons to help contribute to the fact that the New Deal was successful.
