America’s Justification War happens in the world, because of a good reason or bad reason. America went to war with mexico for many reasons, many justifying their acts. Texas had become independent from mexico and was to be annexed into America. America then claimed some of the land and there was dispute over where the border was. America thought it was Rio Grande, Mexico thought it was Nueces river. Which resulted in some conflict. Was the Unites States Justified in going to war with Mexico? Yes, because of mexican invasions, manifest destiny, and increasing population. The first reason the United States was justified in going to war with mexico is because Mexico themselves invaded them. Where United States claimed to be the border (Rio Grande) they sent soldiers to check to see if mexicans would cross the boundary, and when encountered the mexican troops injured and killed 16 of the 63 men dispatched.(Doc B) Mexico also attempted to subdue Americans’ beliefs. After achieving independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico made slavery outlawed, which goes against lots of americans customs and beliefs. (Doc C) While many americans …show more content…
As stated by John L. O’Sullivan, “Other nations have attempted...hostile interference against us… hampering our power, limiting our greatness and stopping the fulfillment of our manifest destiny to overspread the continent given to us by God for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions.” This quote states that other nations tried to seize the continuation of America's goal to spread to the pacific ocean from the east. John also refers to Mexican officials as, “Dumb and distracted…” Implying that they are not efficient at governing their land, especially California. Also predicting, “California probably, will fall away next from [Mexico]...” (Doc A) America also has other issues, such as a growing
In the Mexican-American war of 1846 the United States of America was justified in going to war with Mexico because of many reasons. First Texas decided that did not want to part of Mexico they wanted to be part the Union (United States). It was America’s Manifest Destiny to go out and conquer the land, and the Mexican government wasn’t stable enough to handle their lands. “Texas had determined…to annex herself to our Union” because of the increasing numbers of American settlers that filled the northern part of the Rio Grande. This led Texans to successfully go for an annexation causing a war between the United States and Mexico.
The Mexican War was not just a territorial war it was a war of religions. The Mexicans were Catholic and the Americans were Protestant; the Mexicans did not like slavery and wanted Texas where the U.S. favored slavery and ignored Mexican Authority. The United States was justified in
Was the United States Justified in Going to War With Mexico? People fight for what they want or think is right and out of this comes war, a conflict between two groups of people that can be held responsible for numerous people’s deaths. It was 1846 and the U.S. saw Texas as a future part of their country but at that time it was Mexico’s land. Polk was president and believed in the manifest destiny which was a belief that the U.S. should own all the land in that continent They wanted to fight for it and this led to the war known today as the Mexican War, but people in Mexico call it the U.S. Invasion.
US Justified or Not Justified War, bloodshed, trespassing, death, all this was caused by the US going to war for no reason. During this time, many interesting things happened. In 1848 the first baseball diamond was laid out in New York. Another interesting fact was that Mexico was a Catholic country, while America was a mostly Protestant country. This caused a lot of anger among the two countries.
Was the Mexican War Justified? When does America have the right to go to war? America had every right to go to war with Mexico because they were farming the land and wanted to do it the way they wanted. Mexico wanted to control their religion, the use of slaves and wanted them to follow their rules.
Because the US took Mexico's territory to advance slavery, the Mexican-American War was not justified. The Americans believed that the best course of action for obtaining the territory was to go to war with Mexico due to the belief in Manifest Destiny. Although there were many negative effects, Manifest Destiny claimed that it was God's intention for people to take and settle on new territory all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The reality that the war ended up causing the slavery debate and the Civil War was the main result that had the biggest effect. The Mexican-American War's historical context is provided here.
INTRODUCTION Throughout the 1840s and 1850s a major war happened called the Mexican American War which drastically changed the U.S. and Mexico and lead to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to be signed and which established the Rio Grande and not the Nueces River as the U.S Border. This also lead to the U.S. annexation of Texas and lead to the Mexico agreeing to sell California and the rest of the territory for 15 million. So you 're probably wondering why the war was fought but you 'll find that out later.
This war happened mainly because the U.S. wanted to expand to the Pacific Ocean to fulfill their Manifest Destiny, trying to take away Mexico’s land. Mexico refused to to give land to the U.S. The big question is whether the U.S. was justified in fighting Mexico in the Mexican-American War. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Manifest Destiny, too much Mexican interference, and Texas was invaded. One reason the Mexican War was justified was Manifest Destiny. In Document A, John O’Sullivan writes: “Texas is now ours...Let their reception into the “family be frank, kindly, and cheerful….”
Was the United States justified in going to war with Mexico? The United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico because they did not respect their laws, culture, and their beliefs. Second of all, this evidence shows that the US was not justified in going to war because it was useless to fight if the Mexicans were going to lose Texas if it was not now, it would be later on. Truly, it was very clear that the Americans won the war because Texas wanted to become part of the US, and the United States wanted to adopt Texas into their union.
Manifest destiny also affected the relationship with Mexico. Several factors led to the Mexican- American War in 1846. The factors were that the U.S citizens were moving into California and Mexico. Since there were many revolutions happening in Mexico throughout this time period the Mexican government was not able to protect the U.S citizens in this region. Another factor was that Mexico was upset that Texas declared independence from them and then the U. S annexed Texas in 1845.
God wanted the US to expand. On the contrary, some individuals claim the US was not justified in going to war with Mexico. This point of view makes sense because Texas was Mexico’s to begin with. Despite that, Texas was independent when the US annexed it. Therefore, the united states was justified in going to war with Mexico.
When Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1821, a string of ruthless dictators and weak presidents made Mexico an easy target for its powerful neighbor, the United States. The US swooped in to expand its territory and its popular institution of slavery. By doing so, the US started a war with Mexico that was justified for illegitimate reasons. The Mexican-American War was not justified because the US took Mexico’s land for the expansion of slavery, and justified their taking advantage of Mexico when it was politically weak by hiding behind Manifest Destiny.
Was the United States Justified in Going to War With Mexico? After Texas became annexed to the US, tensions grew between the US and Mexico. The two countries could not agree on where the border of Texas was. Mexico claimed that the Nueces River was the Texan border.
The United States of America has been through many wars, wars concerning many things such as land oil, pride and respect. However, when the United States went to war with Mexico, it was planned over greed. The Mexican- American war was a war provoked by the United States, in efforts to expand the coasts of the country. Mexico was a small underprivileged country who had previously to the war had already lost part of their country (Texas). Needless to say this war was cut throat and violent, it was however one of the smartest business decisions America has ever made.
Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself wasn’t legitimate because of the revolution in Texas, motivation for superiority, and the U.S. government’s actions. To begin, the Texans began an unreasonable war because they didn’t follow Mexico’s laws and conditions. When Mexico started selling cheap land, they set conditions for the people moving in. The people had to convert to Catholicism, learn Spanish, become a Mexican citizen, and have no slaves. Many Americans didn’t like being told what to do, and disobeyed the rules and laws.
