Carl Perkins
Introduction
Many artists go through tough times and still strike it big, but none did it like Carl Perkins. Carl Perkins was a 20th-century musician who sang rockabilly music. He wrote and sang many songs that other artists liked and recorded. Carl Perkins pioneered rockabilly music, wrote many songs that people could relate to, and was in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame making him one of the greatest rockabilly artists of the 20th century.
Childhood Inspirations

The Perkins bought their first home with electricity in Bemis, Tennessee, after World War II. With now having electricity, you would usually find Carl in the attic playing his second-hand electric harmony guitar. One day around the 1950s, Carl convinced his brothers Clayton and Jay to start a little band. They started playing country music in nearby honky-tonks. They called themselves The Perkins Brothers (Carlin, 2006). After he moved out and got married, Carl decided to start his musical career. This was after listening to Elvis and talking it over with his persuasive wife (Larkin, 2002). Carl had a good family who always helped him out. When he felt like it was time for him to make his music a full time job, his family was there and did whatever he needed them to do. He was well known for country music and people like Johnny Cash sang his songs (Wallenfeldt,2013). Carl became well known in England after guitarist George Harrison played some of Carl's songs such as "Honey Don't," "Matchbox," and "Everybody Wants to Be My Baby” (Carlin, 2006). Also, one very early morning at 3 A.M., Carl wrote one of his most famous songs, “Blue Suede Shoes” on an empty potato bag. His song made it on the Top Ten country, R&B, and pop charts (Talevski, 2018). People such as Dave Edmunds and George Harrison were both greatly impacted by Carl (Larkin, 2002). Ray Charles Ray Charles is a well known American musician. He played in country, pop, rock, blues, and jazz, but pioneered in soul music. He combined gospel and blues music together, theses are two completely different genres. One is the teaching or revelation of Christ, while blues is about feelings. Rosetta Nubin Tharpe famously known as “Sister Rosetta” Tharpe was an African American gospel singer who popularized this genre of music among secular audiences. She impacted American music history by being one the pioneers whose guitar technique helped shaped the sound that eventually evolved into the rock-and-roll style. Because of this she coined the name – The Godmother of Rock-and-Roll. First of all, in the 1950’s Elvis Presley and his music started the era of the generation gap between teenagers and their parents, an era which is still going on today. With Elvis being very young, attractive and his new type of music and dancing, teenage girls fell head over heels for the young star. Most parents though, did not feel the same way about Presley. He was often described a vulgar and many accused him of corrupting the youth.
