Throughout the book The Captain’s Dog, the story of the Lewis and Clark expedition is told from the perspective of Lewis’ dog, Seaman. Lewis, Clark, and their men faced many hardships and successes that today I admire, such as discovering new animals and land and reaching the Pacific Ocean. Although, during the expedition they harmed Native Americans which is something I don’t admire. One thing I admire about Lewis and Clark was how they discovered new animals and land. During the expedition, they found many new animals such as coyotes, prairie dogs, buffalo, various species of birds, and many more. These new animals opened up more scientific opportunities when they brought the specimens back to the east coast. Furthermore, while the men were traveling to the Pacific, they uncovered lots of land new to them. They mapped this land and brought the maps back to the east. I believe it was very courageous of Lewis and Clark to take the risk of dying to expand our country. This is something I definitely admire.
In addition, another one of the ways I admire the Lewis and Clark Expedition is reaching the Pacific Ocean. This was the reason for the expedition and accomplishing that was definitely a victory for the men and even America. In The Captain’s Dog, after reaching their destination of the

During the expedition, Lewis, Clark and their men caused harm to some Native Americans. In The Captain’s Dog, Captain Lewis was furious when he exclaimed, “The next Indian caught stealing will be instantly be put to death” (251, CD). Although I agree stealing is wrong, I don’t believe someone should be killed for it. I believe a punishment is necessary, but only one that doesn’t cause any harm. Native Americans were Lewis and Clark’s only form of trade and killing one of them would ruin their trade relations. I believe harming any human being is wrong and I don’t admire Lewis and Clark for
In Captain Lewis and Clark’s famous expedition, they successfully made it across the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, opening the previously occupied western region for trade routes. Their unforgettable adventure led to the first reports of the American West. Over the course of the exhibition Lewis and Clark interacted with almost 50 different tribes. The trail of tears, fewer than 10 tribes were interacted with and they were just forced to move.
Lewis and Clark had a profound impact on the historical development of the United States, expanding the nation's understanding of its geography, and shaping the country's connection with Native Americans. The Geography of the Louisiana Purchase led to the development of many things. After realizing that the Northwest Passage didn’t exist, they

Befriending the Indians Lewis & Clark’s Greatest Achievement the Indians helped Lewis and Clark all throughout their expedition. How? Here are the reasons why Lewis and Clark’s greatest achievement was befriending the Indians. Lewis and Clark’s most important contribution was supported by the Indians trading with them, sketching maps for them and by Lewis and Clark giving gifts to the Indians.
Lewis and Clark were the exploring duo that made history in the exploration of America. With the help from their entourage, Sacagawea, and others they successful explored the land President Jefferson purchased known as the Louisiana Purchase. The territories of Louisiana offered more than just the new areas but a hope for ways around North America`s coast. Meriwether Lewis was an explorer and solider born August 18,1774 near Ivy, Virginia. He grew up on Locust Hill plantation neighboring Monticello where Jefferson lived.
The Lewis and Clark expedition is arguably the most courageous and adventurous exploration effort ever made in American history. The Lewis and Clark took place after the Louisiana Purchase as an effort to find a northwest passage, map the newly purchased land, make scientific discoveries in the area, and to establish contact with the natives and set up a strong trade network with them. Through efforts of Thomas Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, Sacagawea, and many others, the United states was radically changed through the exploration of these new uncharted areas. The Lewis and Clark exploration would not have been possible without Thomas Jefferson's monumental purchase of the Louisiana Territory. Due to the United States westward
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark are well-known for their exploration westward in an effort to expand the United States territory. Lewis and Clark were charged with exploring the Louisiana territory, mapping the territory and water routes, recording land resources, establishing trade with the Native American people, and claiming the land in the West for the United States. During the expedition, Lewis and Clark had encounters with over 50 different Native American tribes, and in order to expand in the West, Thomas Jefferson encouraged Lewis and Clark to treat the Native American Indians in a friendly and non-hostile manner. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were respectful to the Native Americans because they learned about each tribe’s culture,
On June 20th 1803, President Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter to Captain Meriwether Lewis. In the letter, Jefferson is appointing Lewis as commander of an expedition that is to take place in Western America. Jefferson’s instructions involved getting a group of military men to explore the West and find its water passage across the continent “for the purposes of commerce”, discovering new plants and
Although Lewis and Clark did not accomplish their goal, they made their journey a success. First, Thomas Jefferson bought some massive land called,” The Louisiana Purchase” in 1803. He needed someone to study the vast land, and also see if there was a way to the Pacific Ocean. The president of 1803, Thomas Jefferson, sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, along with soldiers and various supplies. As Lewis in as the leader, and Clark in second commander, Jefferson created a group as of today, called the Corps of Discovery.
From 1804-1806, the Corps of Discovery embarked on a journey that would take them through thick forests, across dangerously fast rivers, and up into the highest regions of the country. The most famous members, Lewis and Clark, led the expedition, along with the help of many others, including a Native American woman named Sacagawea. They scouted and mapped the area, taking notes and naming regions that would later be populated by thousands of pioneers that would immigrate into the area. Their efforts towards exploration proved successful and allowed the U.S. to gain detailed information of their newly acquired land. Within American history, a number of individuals have reached greatness, yet only a few have ever been appreciated and recognized
In Corps of Discover, 2016, “Although it was not successful, “Lewis and Clark achieved an impressive record of peaceful cooperation with the Indians and generated American interest in the fur trade” (Corps of Discover, 2016). On April 7, 1805 the Lewis and Clark exploration provided all gathered information from the trip and sent it to Missouri making the expedition results vitally important to the nations growth by providing information from the crews hard work (Corps of Discover, 2016). As rightfully noted in The Lewis and Clark Expedition, 2016, “The Lewis and Clark Expedition are often called the greatest adventure in American history. ”(The Lewis and Clark Expedition, 2016), and as
The importance of the Lewis and Clark were monumental, beyond just documenting new plant life, animals, and land/water formation, but for the westward expansion. Writers would publish stories that would create hopes, dreams and fascinations about the adventure that lies in the west. For some it proposed a glamourous illusion of mystery and passion. The Corps of Discovery explorers made their way across the northwest, mapping the terrain of the newly purchased Louisiana Territory and westward across the Pacific Northwest.
After watching Tecumseh’s Vision, I became more knowledgeable about the struggles Natives had to experience as western civilization occurred. Tecumseh was a trailblazer to his people and was a visionary. He was in favor of a strong Indian confederacy and was a strong Indian leader. As a result of rising tensions between the Shawnees and the Americans, it lead to a costly culmination of battles in order to claim Ohio land and westward expansion. Tecumseh’s legacy lives on and he is remembered for his leadership and courage to take on the Americans.
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark had a rough journey, but still managed to achieve their accomplishments during the
