Just as the United States was on the right path to bring their economy back to life, the next world war came. At the beginning of the war, the United States remained uninvolved. However, countries like Italy, Germany, and Japan, attacked other countries. The majority of the American citizens wished that their country would stay out of the conflict. Yet, despite the citizens’ attitude, the congress voted to induct American soldiers, as well as strengthen the military. This led to the rise of flappers, the passing of the 19th Amendment, and new job opportunities for women. However, after the boom and glamour of the 1920s, the Great Depression hit in 1929, causing widespread unemployment and economic hardship, which
Women’s rights and the way they live has changed greatly over the course of time. Back in the day, women did not have equal rights to men and they had to face many challenges in order to receive the jobs they wanted. Nowadays, women can get the same jobs as men and their power is much more appreciated. The 1930’s affected women in a positive way over time as they tried to work their way up in government positions, obtain more profitable jobs, and help provide for their families; but they still had a long ways to go getting equal rights to men.
During the 1920s women gained a freedom that they had not known before. Women were wearing new and shorter fashion styles (document 4). Before the 1920s women’s fashion included floor length dresses that were usually reworn every day. Wearing the same dress every day was seen as a normality during this time and owning too many dresses could have been considered frivolous. In the 1920s however many women owned multiple dresses that they did not have to wear every day or even week.
During the war there was multiple types of jobs for a women and roles that a women had to play. Women were soldiers, nurses, spies, abolitionist, promoters, etc anything that help benefit the war. Women is never really seen as a big part of history due to the fact that women was always get ran over by men and family members because of their gender and what they was seen for. Women in the 1920s were just beginning to progress in society and they were able to start working
Jaila Sargent Mrs. La Rue Research Paper 28 February, 2018 The Life of Women in the 1930s Women in the 1930s always had to lower the costs on thing because there was not a lot of money to go around for all women. Many may ask how did the United States even get involved in such a war? The attack on Pearl Harbor forced the United States into a state of immediate revenge, permanently erasing all ideas of isolationism from American thoughts on foreign policy forever. For the majority of American history all its citizens whether republic or democratic shared one belief, the aim of the United States was to keep America out of war unless America itself was attacked. Japan 's attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 was just the initiative that America needed to officially abandon isolationism and enter the dreaded war. The attack left 2,403 dead, a crippled Pacific Fleet that included 8 damaged or destroyed battleships, and 188 destroyed planes. In one attack this Japanese action silenced the heated debate that had divided Americans ever since the German defeat of France left England alone in the fight against the Germans.
Prior to the 1920s, society had a very traditional and proper lifestyle, were people maintained a happy home and balanced life. Without the inventions we have today such as televisions, microwaves, ovens, or even washers for our laundry, many time at home was dedicated to cooking and cleaning. Many women were expected to stay at home, do the chores, not voice their opinion, and make life ideal for their husbands. Then, during wars where men were away, women were expected to do work outside the home instead of their usual household chores. At this turning point, women began to recognize their abilities and demand rights as well as break the stereotype that men are more capable than women.
The Roaring Twenties, characterized as a progressive era toward changes and advances, it was a start for freedom and independence for women. Women gained political power by gaining the right to vote. They changed their traditional way to be, way to act and dress to gain respect, and the liberty of independence. Society had different ways of ideals and the ways women were willing to do were disapproved of, and it was wrong for lots of different people, including women from the older generation. In the 1920’s women went through a lot of changes that made them a free spirit, changes that made them what they are now and having the liberty of being independent.
The fashion of the 1920 s is a reflection of peoples extravagant lifestyles and elevated thinking. It was an exciting time to be a woman because more freedoms and opportunities were available, not to mention woman gaining the right to vote . There were new patterns of clothing, bras, and smaller corsets not to mention that most of the clothing was made by the woman themselves. Through the years woman have stayed at home and not had much involvement in the society.
