Evidence (and page number): In the following quote, the author uses imagery in order to convey Elie’s Dad being brutally beaten “The officer wielded his club and dealt him a violent blow to the head. My father groaned once more, then said…. ‘Eliezer’” (Wiesel, 11) Explanation: This is an important way the author uses imagery to convey a key event in the story because in this quote Elie’s father is dealt a fateful blow that leads to his death. This relates to the theme of family because of his fathers death, but also because the last word that Elie’s father said was his name.
