Daryl Shuttleworth can best be described as a magnificent character actor who, regardless of the size of his role, always immerses himself fully into his work. He has a great respect for the art of acting, and his experience includes everything from stage, to screen, and then some. On the Hallmark network, he has been featured in recent years in both When Calls the Heart and Cedar Cove, but if you examine his list of credits, you might be surprised at how many times you may have seen him without being cognizant of that fact. Recently, I had an opportunity to discuss with Daryl his various Hallmark roles, including his upcoming Hallmark film, “All Things Valentine.”
A REASON to ENTERTAIN
What inspired you to become an actor?

With “When Calls the Heart,” you’ve got to understand that this show is not historically accurate. It is not supposed to be. I have read many comments where some people criticize the show for that fact. As Westerns and other such shows, it is told like a kind of fable. In fact, the show is supposed to be like a postcard so that the viewers can escape from reality. There is enough negativity in this world, and it is a delight to get away from all that for awhile, and that is what this show attempts to do.
What was it like playing someone on the surface that is suppose to be on the side of the law but in reality is the total opposite?
When I was first asked to play (Mountie) James Houston, Neill Fearnley (the director) told me that he wasn’t sure if Houston would turn out to be bad (because it wasn’t written yet), but he figured that eventually my character would be bad. But, of course, as an actor, I couldn’t play him that way. It is not my job as an actor to judge the character. I have to play him with no judgment. In Houston’s mind, he isn’t
Micro Level Analysis Target & Dimensions As aforementioned, Lia Lee’s father, Nao Kao Lee, and his perception of Lia’s primary doctor, Dr. Neil Ernst, will be analyzed using the social constructionist perspective. Specifically, individuals and couples are the targets for analysis. Looking at these interactions through a micro lens includes examining how and why the interactions between Nao Kao and Neil happened. Adding in the social constructionist perspective to the micro level, social workers utilizing this perspective would investigate how Nao Kao constructed his individual perception of reality based on his experiences with Neil.
“Our Hearts Are Sickened” is a letter written by Chief John Ross of the Cherokee tribe located in Georgia. The letter was written in 1836, just eight years after the beginning of President Andrew Jackson’s term. During Jackson’s Presidency, he pushed Native Americans off of their land and they were forced to move west leaving, for most of them, the only home they had known. This is a letter written to the United States and House of Representatives.
In the beginning of the novel Alyss Heart is characterized as stubborn, mischievous, and a prankster. Alyss is spoiled and does not want help from anyone. Instead of learning from other people who are trying to help her, she is trying to be independent. Alyss is clueless and doesn’t think about how it could be bad or dangerous. She is clueless and will always be like that because she thinks very little of suspicious situations.
In the novel A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J Gaines, Grant is a main character that has a lot of influence over the people in his community. Some might even consider him a hero. I believe that Grant is a hero because he helps Jefferson become a man, changes himself for the better, and wants to continue changing the community. Over the course of the novel, Grant helps Jefferson become the man that he needs to be in order to walk to his death with honor. When Grant first begrudgingly went to visit Jefferson in prison Jefferson was in a really low state.
Unlike most novels, identifying a single main character in As I Lay Dying is difficult, since the novel does not have a single narrator and follows an entire family’s journey. The novel surrounds mainly seven characters: Addie, Anse, Cash, Jewel, Dewey Dell, Darl and Vardaman Bundren. Each of these character narrates several sections in the novel, and all show important information and accounts of what happens. The entire family not only advances the main plot of burying Addie, but has their own subplots that are equally if not more important to them. For example, Dewey Dell not only travels with the family to bury Addie, but along the way seeks out a doctor to help her get an abortion.
Circumstance. That is what drives people to make decisions that would either be viewed as poor or brilliant. In the stories The Crucible by Arthur Miller and In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, the main characters are motivated by circumstance. The way a person is raised through out their life can greatly affect how they view the world, and how they choose to live in it. This choice affects how they interact with other people and how other people interact with them.
Behind the Beautiful Forevers, written by Katherine Boo, is about residents of Annawadi, a slum in Mumbai, India. These slums of Mumbai force kids to grow up faster than anywhere else on the planet. Forcing kids to work as soon as they can walk, and press them into tough situations. The book details the lives of the female slumlord, Asha, and her daughter Manju. Asha is part of the corrupt system of government, and wants her daughter to be just like her when she grows up.
“Your are free to make your own choices. But, you are not free to choose your own consequences”-Author unknown. In Tim Akers book, Heart of Veridon, the main character, Jacob Burn, comes to find himself suddenly in the middle of one of the largest conflicts which has taken place. Such as in life, Jacob came to find himself in this position due to poor decisions he made. From receiving a stole cog to being disowned by both factions of his family, all conflicts in this story come from Jacob Burns’ own misdoing.
“Insanity: n. mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct her/his affairs due to psychosis, or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior” (Hill). This definition describes the narrator, a sweet yet deadly man, of “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe seamlessly. (Appositive) A few prominent characteristics demonstrate the narrator’s insanity, and those include his motives, his actions, and his thoughts.
Edgar Allan Poe was a genius before his time, and his riveting works are immortalized in the hearts and minds of his readers. For hundred of years, adults and children alike have been intrigued by Edgar Allan Poe’s stories. Many of Poe’s works differ from one another especially, “William Wilson” and “The Tell-Tale Heart”. Although it may seem like there are more similarities between the two works, their differences are much more significant. “William Wilson” and “The Tell-Tale Heart s”’most of the tremendous differences are found within characters, conflicts, and themes.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
Do you know what your child or/ children read at school? Do you want your child or/ children reading about murder, dismember bodies, lying and acting phony? The Tell-Tale Heart is a story about a mad man with a lot of issues like, being mad, having a disease and murdering. The story encourages lying, murdering, and fakeness. Therefore, I feel tell-tale heart is not appropriate for middle school students.
This time, he embodies the somewhat mysterious, potentially shady Chris Suddon. In the past, we've seen him in Cedar Cove and When Calls the Heart, and there is no doubt he brings just the right vibe to this role. Here's hoping we see him in more Hallmark works in the future. Remember this guy? Preston Vanderslice has been in a vast array of Hallmark works in recent times, and it was a welcome surprise to see him in this film.
Maternity In Love Medicine In the novel “Love Medicine” by Louise Erdrich the mothers seem to defy history and control their families and their lives, the mothers seem to have most influence on the people around them. The mothers in “Love Medicine” are strong tough women, who suffer through seemingly unbearable pain throughout their lives which seems to influence them for the rest of their lives. One of the strongest characters in the novel “Love Medicine” is Marie Lazarre/Kashpaw who comes from a family of thieves, but heads her family with a no nonsense attitude that she has carried with her since early life.
“I've heard many things in the heaven and in the earth. I've heard many things in hell”(Poe). In the story The tell tale heart, a man ends up killing his old man over his “Vulture eye”. He loved the old man. But his “evil eye” vexed him and he decided to take his life.
