Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States of America, and undoubtedly the best. Jefferson was born on Saturday, April 13th, 1743, and passed away on Tuesday, July 4th, 1826. On his deathbed, Jefferson was dying and knew he couldn't stop it from happening, but he wanted to live for his last Independence Day. So he was able to hold on until midnight, and died in the very early morning. When he died, he was eighty-three years old (plus two months and three weeks). His term as president lasted for eight years, from the year 1801 to the year 1809. Today, his face is on the American two-dollar bill and the American nickel.

Jefferson is the greatest president in American history because he did so much for our country. Let's start with the Louisiana Purchase. Thomas Jefferson oversaw the Louisiana Purchase, which was made in 1803. The Louisiana Purchase was the acquisition of the Louisiana Territory that nearly doubled the size of the United States. President Jefferson bought this territory for $15,000,000 from Napoleon so he could find out if there was some sort of water route across the continent. Giving the 13 colonies (Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Virginia) their independence from British rule as free states. Jefferson was an active member of Continental Congress as well as the governor of Virginia during the American Revolutionary War. Thomas Jefferson also founded the University of Virginia. In his term as president, one of Jefferson's campaign promises was to repeal internal duties. He also swore hostility to every form of tyranny over the mind of man and emphasized unalienable
