Clark exploited the business of copper in Butte like nobody had done before. This turned Butte into a “Boom Town”, everybody wanted to move to Butte to make some money in the mines. Anyway, it was the Gilded Age, so all of that wealthiness of Butte was covering all the crap underneath the bed. Clark got rich yes, but costing the lives of too many people in the mines.

Thomas Jefferson, the American President wanted to explore and discover the hidden treasures in the large Western parts of America that were inhabited by the local Indian tribes for centuries. Jefferson then hired his personal secretary, Meriwether Lewis to undertake the expedition, find new routes and discover the eco system in the region. He also wanted them to build better ties with the local tribes that would help foster trade. The expedition of Lewis and Clark faced many challenges, interacted with many new Native peoples and was an important milestone in American history. Lewis and Clark had many, many challenges.

Despite what many might think, "Undaunted Courage" by Steven Ambrose is an excellent non-fiction adventure about the journey of Lewis and Clark. This book rekindled my interest in the Lewis and Clark Exhibition and I would recommend it to all. An excellent book that forces one to appreciate not just Lewis and Clark, but all Americans who took great risks to allow us to live as we do. In many standard books, it is said that Lewis death was an accident or a murder, while in "Undaunted Courage" his death has ruled a suicide. I had also learned that the only people on this journey were Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and a young Indian named Sacagawea, a young Indian who had been captured by Lewis and Clark to serve as a guide.

Lewis and Clark “began the American invasion of the west,” (). They fulfilled “many of Jefferson’s wishes for the expedition,” (). Along the journey, Clark “drew a series of maps that were remarkably detailed, noting and naming rivers and creeks, writing down the spots where they camped and writing down new discoveries they made,” (). While looking for more minerals they also found many different fossils for example in the early part of the journey they found a fossil that was about 45 feet long and came to the conclusion that it wasn’t a fish but a mezoic creature that wouldn’t be named until the late 1920’s. On this expedition, Lewis and Clark were supposed to find new profitable plants or plants that have a medicinal purpose as well. Also, they were supposed to look for new species of animals and the animals that they were looking for should have lots of fur. While they were out there they were supposed to see if you could get from the headwaters of the Missouri River to the headwater of the Columbian River. Thomas Jefferson wanted to know if there was a good commercial route by using the two rivers.

“Great things have have been effected by a few men well conducted”(NPS.gov) George Rogers Clark stated this while slogging through icy waters going to capture a fort. This fort would change the course of the war in the midwest. This allowed the United States to expand the frontier and acquire more states later in history. Without his contribution the United States could have easily lost the war to Britain and still be a colony but this allowed the war to continue and lead to the formation of the United States of America. Clark was the highest ranking military officer in the Northwest during the Revolutionary War.

William Clark was known for the great Lewis and Clark Expedition. He was born on August 1,1770 in Caroline County, Virginia, and died on September 1, 1838. He lived with his father, William Clark III; his mother, Ann Rogers Clark; and his older brother, George Rogers Clark, who was Revolutionary war hero. At the age of nineteen, Clark entered the military. He first served in the militia and then entered the U.S. Army.

Although he never really accomplished what he what trying to do, Henry Hudson was still a very driven and persistent explorer. He was a leader to many other explorers, and he also helped inspire interest of America in Europe. In Hudson’s lifetime, he set out on four voyages. For three of these journeys he was partnered with England, and for the other, with the Netherlands. Henry Hudson is a great example of an explorer who kept trying even with adversity.

Jefferson gave Lewis permission to find a co-captain for the journey. Lewis chose William Clark for this position. While in the military, Lewis met Clark, the captain of the Chosen Rifle Company, where they became friends and admirers of each other. Lewis chose Clark even though they had only known each other for six months. Lewis felt Clark could be helpful in places where he wasn’t the strongest.

His actions proved that by abusing the ties of teamwork, he underwent the consequences of not following the orders established by the team. Lastly, Lewis held the position of Captain and Clark was the Lieutenant (Textbook) and although they held different rankings, they divided up power and shared leadership so well that no one knew Lewis had more control over the team than Clark. Therefore, the Corps of Discovery displayed a combined effort towards accomplishing their goal of charting the Northwest and their ability to stay loyal to one another was their greatest

President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the Corps of Discovery to have the Lewis and Clark expedition find a waterway that could connect the United States for transportation because he had aspirations to expand to the Pacific and Northwest making the expedition important to his agenda for the United States. Another reason for the important expedition was to create a relationship with the American Indians, and the American fur trade, while learning the North American topography and geography of the land which was also important to the exploration (Corps of Discover, 2016). The Lewis and Clark expedition was a turning point in American history. It radically expanded our current knowledge of what used to be the Louisiana Territory. When thinking of this expedition, most forget that many people accompanied Lewis and Clark. Each member had important jobs and roles that may have drastically increased the aqusition of knowledge. There were even cases of incredulous misbehavior with appropriate punishments, and of course, along the way deaths occurred.

An archetype is a character or person that cares our stereotypical traits, looks, and values as the others in that same archetype. The explorer archetype includes people that like new ideas and new ways to experience life. The idea of creating, discovering, and learning new ideas is what drives explorers. The passion of traveling is leaving the old behind to start a new can not be a random plan There has to be a true want, and at risk to be able to take a chance at finding new places. To get out of normal life, and find a new way to live or to reach a destination point, no matter what obstacles that are in their pathway.
