Personal Essay On Becoming A Physician

Like the MEPN program, I’m committed to engaging, educating, and treating underserved communities alongside like-hearted healthcare professionals. My deep compassion, extensive work experiences, and honed leadership skills have uniquely equipped me to bring my own contributions to the richness of the MEPN program. It doesn’t stem solely from my upbringing but from my proactive determination to develop and transcend within my work and education. Additionally, I firmly believe that the art and science of quality and inclusive healthcare begin with understanding the challenges and needs of underserved populations.

My goal is to become a primary doctor working with underserved communities, especially the Latino community. My work and volunteer experience and my professional goal are committed to provide service to the community with cultural competence, diversity and service orientation. CMSRU humanistic education in the art and science of medicine will complement these life experiences, characteristics, as well as my professional and personal interests and goals. As a medical student at CMSRU I will be able to receive an excellent education in patient care, will feel included in the CMSRU community, will share and strengthen my professionalism, collaborative and and civic responsibility skills. The article The Personal Toll of Practicing Medicine by physician Elaine Schattner written on March 16, 2017, is aimed at decreasing the expected pace and limiting hours of practicing medicine to support the physician’s well being. Elaine Schattner is a physician certified in hematology and oncology and a mother of two in New York. The article discusses Schattner’s experience beginning as a patient at age 6, continuing through her school and residency years, to finally ending her practice due to depression. Schattner uses her personal experience to support the purpose of her article, to protect the well being of physicians. The beginning of the article explains how Schattner became interested in practicing medicine.

I chose TTUHSC SOM because of the ability to learn medicine in a place that values the art of patient care in its foundation as well as the ability to do anything I hope to do in medicine guided by the strength of its mission and the care that TTUHSC SOM provides for its students. I would like to conduct my medical career in a setting that converges between urban and rural settings. My parents brought their strong work ethic from Ghana, cultivated on their family’s farms, to Austin, Texas where it was critical in encouraging my own desire to work in close contact with a diverse population of patients. My experiences in the communities I’ve lived in and health care have provided me with the insight to work within both types of areas. My most prominent experiences in health care have come from working in clinics that serve underserved populations.

Today’s lecture on the physician assistants (PA) was very informative. Mrs. Hughes spoke on what a physician assistant is, what they do as well as what the requirements are for those who chose the career path. PA’s are individuals whom practice medicine while also being under the supervision of medical doctors or physicians. They can work in all areas of medicine including emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry which Mrs. Hughes works under. Within this occupation individuals have the ability to prescribe medicine, diagnose and treat mental illnesses, give immunizations as well as perform various other tasks.

While caring for patients will be an enormous part of my life, I also wish to raise a close-knit family with an admirable husband; while all still being a strong independent woman. After obtaining a doctorate degree I hope to gain employment at a world renowned pediatric hospital, such as St. Jude’s Hospital, Rainbow Babies Hospital, or even the Cleveland Clinic. Gabby Dutsar is in her 4th year of the physicians assistant program at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. She will be in her graduate year of the physicians assistant program next year. She is an alum of Conard High School and has taken the previous form of our Emergency Medical Services class known as Allied Health. The information Gabby provided reinforced my confidence that I want to be a physicians assistant.

Sitting at a desk, dragging fingers key to key on the keyboard, sipping the last sip of coffee from the mug that says “world’s greatest accountant” or any other lying quote that motivates throughout the undesirable day. In a life that the world expects to work hard for the first 18 years of life by forcing learning, such as walking, reading, to making and solving equations. Sitting at a desk for 13 to 14 years, just to live a life in a different desk for the rest of your working life. But, why live a boring life when a career that challenges on a daily basis, pumps adrenaline into the heart for more desire, while helping and saving people during the time of great need. As a physician’s assistant, life will never be boring.

Have you ever experienced the rush of adrenaline or exhilarated pressure that challenges you? During the week of August 2nd through August 8th, I had the opportunity to shadow doctors at medical camps in Matamoros. Mexico. Also during this time, I was struggling between my career choices for college. On August 6th, I was observing Dr. Joby, an emergency room doctor.

In the fall of 2017 I will attend the University of Cincinnati. At the University of Cincinnati, I will pursue a major in Physiologic Science. After attaining this degree, I will pursue a higher education at an accredited Physician Assistant program. I will finish my education with a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies. I possess several attributes that influenced my decision to study Physiologic Science in preparation for a Physician Assistant program.

Helping out my mother with the bills, working full time and commuting to college, seemed like the destined plan for me after high school. Nonetheless, it came as a shock to everyone when I confessed, I had accepted my admission to Texas A&M. My family took it the worst at first, as it seemed if I wanted to run away from the responsibilities that had suffocated me up to the minute I pressed

Since a child I was always held responsible for attending doctor 's appointments with my parents due to their language barrier. Surprisingly, I never felt that responsibility as a burden because hospitals intrigued me. The polar emotions of safety and fear simultaneously, fascinated me. With this awareness when I began taking science courses at North Shore Community College, I found that the subject also fascinated me. The components of liking the hospital and material, had led me to the realization that I had a calling for the medical field.

Through my studies of human expression and its reflection of how people deal with world events in different ways, I developed sensitivity to other worldviews that continues to prove useful through my daily interactions with people of different backgrounds. I have learned that just like art, medicine involves pattern recognition and derives insight from experiences. Similarly, what I especially enjoy about being a medical assistant is interacting with patients on a daily basis and getting to be a part of their medical experiences, even if it is just by lending an ear. The experiences on my path to a career in medicine have made me want to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of those around me – a difference that leaves my patients in a better condition than they were in before I met them.

Calvin Neal Exploring a Health Career: Physician Assistant Ever since my cousin Paul, whom I’ve always looked up to, went to college and became a PA, I’ve wanted to follow in his footsteps. The definition of a physician assistant is “someone qualified to assist a physician and carry out routine clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician.” However, physician assistants can be so much more than that. They work in numerous fields such as pediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics, and with several health care providers such as nurses, surgeons, and physicians.

The main subject of this course is how to become medical professional. Medical professional is something that is practiced or obligated on a daily basis by the individual who is following the ethical standard of medical profession. A professional individuals should have a good judgement, polite behavior and skills and ability to do well in the medical fields. Also medical professions should have the courteous and good manner in the workplace. For instance, a good health practitioner can correctly diagnose and treat patients properly.
