As a child I would always see my parents work hard for every dollar they made. When I reached my teenage years I realized that it was because they were immigrants to this country and took whatever job opportunity they could find. I also came to realize that I was an immigrant, and that life was tougher for not having the proper documentation. This year I fell into the biggest hole of my life. I learned that I was not going to get financial aid because of my legal status and my mother was also diagnosed with a tumer last month.
I am dedicated, energetic and enthusiastic. I place a high value on quality and I thrive in team environments. When given a task, I rise to the challenge as I have done throughout my academic
Throughout history, people have always wanted to settle in new places. However, their reasoning for choosing to leave behind their homes and head into the unknown is not always the same. The article, “America as a Religious Refuge” from Religion and the Founding of the American Republic helps inform us about why settlers chose to move to America. Back in the 1600s, people were faced with a question: what religion should I practice? The decision wasn’t always as easy as it seems; people were faced with dangerous persecution if they chose to be believe in anything but the Church of England.
Furthermore, I am also friendly and courageous at the same time. I am regularly setting innovative goals for myself and
New Americans come to the United States to experience the land of opportunity and hopefully live a better life than in their homeland. Immigrants come here for something known as the “five freedoms” (“Destination America”). These freedoms consist of the freedom to worship, freedom from oppression, freedom from want, freedom from fear and freedom to create. They want to be able to choose how to live and not be punished in the process.
The requirements of becoming a citizen in the United States have changed drastically over the last few centuries. Becoming a US citizen is a lengthy, stressful and expensive process. Parts of the process are based luck, while other parts are based on tests and interviews. Through history, the process of becoming a citizen has gotten harder and harder. Edwidge Danticat’s short story “Caroline’s Wedding”, the processing center at Ellis Island and the historical change of immigration laws show and compare the struggle of becoming a citizen in the United States.
My family has always been the center of my universe. They’ve taught me the importance of being united and taking care of one another—because in the end, all we truly have is each other. My parents have raised me to be a good daughter, sister, and citizen. They’ve shaped me to be respectful, responsible, and virtuous, knowing these values will last a lifetime. But above all, my parents have instilled in me an appreciation and eagerness for education.
There is so much going on in the world today I had a hard time picking a subject because so many have impact on one another. I started out with religious diversity and got into religion being a reflection on race or ethnic. Then I thought about doing racial diversity, but then it tied into nationality diversity. Nationality diversity seems to sum up racial and religious diversity into the main cause of the other diversities. I have noticed ever since 9/11 nationality diversity against Islamic people in America and in general has been on the rise, but with everyone so worried about racism and being politically correct, it has been a slightly taboo subject.
Throughout American history, millions of immigrants around the world have left their countries in search for a fresh start and to be able to succeed in life. And people continue to come to the U,S tp this day. Over the decades, immigrants have had multiple reasons to flee their country and come to America, many came to try and escape poverty, while others wanted to escape war, people come here to seek religious freedom, and that 's what they get. The United States has its downsides to battle immigration, but it also has upsides as well, such as the D.R.E.A.M. Act. It would additionally grant permanent citizenship to many immigrants of good morals who happen to graduate from a U.S high school with an additional 5 years of being in the country
Please accept my resume to showcase my interest in the position of Resident Assistant. I believe that I am an excellent candidate due to my leadership ability, my academic achievement, and my overall attitude. I am a firm believer in academia being the top priority while in college and I have proven this attitude through my performance over the past semester. As a Political Science and International Business double major at Monmouth College, who is on the Pre-Law track, I aspire to work in politics one day as a Political Campaign Manager. My academic attitude, I believe, is important for a Resident Assistant to hold because as a RA, one should be a role model for the other members of the hall.
I am highly motivated and work hard when I am given any kind of work or challenge. My most rewarding accomplishment consists of my ability to overcome the fear and weakness that was conceived upon my arrival to the United States from Mexico, in addition to a newly evolved character which allowed me to achieve academic, professional, and personal success. Nearly seven years ago, my mother and I immigrated from a harsh economic climate in Mexico that was plagued with unemployment. Additionally, our family faced bankruptcy. While holding onto our faith, we left our hometown with only what we could carry and bought two one-way bus tickets. With nothing more than fear, two bags, and $50 in each of our pockets, we set out for what would be the most challenging journey of our lives.
I am a daughter of a refugee and an immigrant. My father left Ethiopia and walked across several countries finally coming to America. While my mother came after 15 years since the communist advance into South Vietnam. I come from a household of parents from two different continents. Their arrival america gave an unique atmosphere in the household.
Coming from a low income family, living in a small town in India, I learned early on about struggling and surviving those struggles. I watched my parents working day and night to provide for electricity, pay for our monthly school fees so my sister and I can have a better education, and for the future they wished upon for their children. To further enhance this vision, my father decided for the family and I to immigrate to the US. Everything was different in the sense that I changed schools, learned a new language, had to make new friends, and learned the different culture. I had to adapt to a whole new world, which was a little difficult at 6 years old
