Why Is Alexander The Great

Alexander the Great can be both considered a hero and a villain . Alexander the Great became the king of Macedonia at the age of nineteen. He conquered many places when he was king. Some of those places were Persia, Egypt, and Asia. The reasons that people call Alexander a villain is because he killed and sold more than six thousand people, destroyed Thebes so that other city-states in Greece would be afraid of him., and said no to “uncivilized” customs.

When Alexander became king of Macedon, Thebes decided to rebel in hopes to break free from the empire. Hearing this news, Alexander rushed to Thebes and broke through the city gates. He destroyed some of the city and brought every citizen together. He pardoned the descendants of Pindar. Also, he pardoned the loyal citizens and their whole families regardless of any unloyal relatives.

As Alexander and his Army marched down the Mediterranean, they faced little to no resistance but when they got to the City Tire they faced heavy resistance. The city was situated on an island and had high walls, some believed it to be unconquerable. Alexander built a bridge connecting the mainland to the island, He crossed his troops and Siege machines to take the city. He had ordered that all except those who sought safety in the temple be killed.

Alexander was very effective because he was able to blend two cultures, had a great military, and gained the trust of the people.

Throughout history, there has been great military leaders come and go. Although, one of the most well-known conquerors is Alexander the Great. Many people thought he was a good leader and a good king. However, the people he conquered think otherwise. The people who supported him say he was compassionate towards others.
