The Most Dangerous Game Throughout the globe, people cherish hunting. It can be challenging, but still a great way of entertainment. Morally, hunting animals is okay or adequate, because it stays within reason. However, in “The Most Dangerous Game”, General Zaroff is convinced that killing humans for sport is acceptable. That idea is very absurd, for many different reasons. This includes the fact that it is barbaric, bluntly it is cold murder, and frankly there is no reason for it. To start, killing humans for fun is simply barbaric. Who has the right to take away another person’s life? Nobody should have that power, or capability, to remove someone from this earth. Everyone was given a life to live. The purpose of someone’s life might be hard to understand, but believe it or not, everyone does have a purpose. Zaroff could have been killing a future president, or someone of great importance to the world. If he killed someone that necessary, then he would have stopped them from fulfilling their purpose in life, and that is awful. Advancing with this topic, not only was Zaroff …show more content…
He only resorted to hunting humans because he was bored with the regular styles of hunting. There was no more thrill in hunting for him, so he tried to find a new challenge for himself. For example, he could challenge himself with different styles or methods of hunting. Instead his sport of murdering humans he could also try new weapons to hunt animals with, or maybe even invent new weapons used for hunting. Or he could even pick up a new hobby. The ideas for what General Zaroff could to to occupy his time are endless! So in the end, General Zaroff had no excuse or reason to hunt humans, and he could have done a plethora of different things to cure his
Most Dangerous Game Argumentation Paragraph The story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell is about Sanger Rainsford ends up on an island with General Zaroff, who hunts humans. Rainsford ends up playing General Zaroff’s game and becomes the huntee while Zaroff is the hunter. Zaroff loses the game and gets killed by Rainsford.
Over 125,000 animals are hunted for sport each year, and for some people, this is not enough (Cappiello). General Zaroff in Richard Connell’s The Most Dangerous Game became so bored of hunting animals, he had to move onto the biggest and most dangerous game to hunt: humans. Richard Connell tells the exciting story of acclaimed hunter Sanger Rainsford and his struggles having to escape the human-hunter general Zaroff. Connell presents a thrilling story with intricate characters and detailed settings, all adding up to the enticing adventure known as The Most Dangerous Game.
He honestly wanted to befriend Rainsford, but once things go opposite of how he wanted, he decides to try to kill him. Zaroff believes that he is the top of the food chain, above humans that he considered “scum of the Earth”. Zaroff is not well mannered or respectful when it comes to fellow humans. Zaroff even captures humans and keeps them
Implying the Gen. Zaroff is going to kill Rainsford, so Rainsford killed Zaroff in self defense. My second reason is that Zaroff killed people. On page (25-26) Gen. Zaroff described his perfect animal humans. That was one of the main reasons that Rainsford killed Gen. Zaroff. My last reason is that no more sailors would be lured to the thought of safety by a lighthouse which is described on page (26-27) of how sailors
I am speaking of hunting.” “Hunting? General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder.”” (Connell, 8) Going back to the beginning of the story, Rainsford had opined on animals not having any feels and hunting just was a sport; Rainsford noticing Zaroff was killing people for the enjoyment of his will.
This can be inferred that he likes the thrill of almost dying while hunting, maybe he thinks that there is no way he would rather die. Zaroff could possibly want to die while hunting, he would die doing what he loves. He wants to be challenged in hunting and people are what challenge him the most. “What are the attributes of an ideal quarry?' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason."
Zarroff likes to hunt so much he stops hunting animals and started hunting for people. Zarroff prefers to hunt people rather than animals, because he believes that animals lack reasoning, making the hunt easy for him, and he like a challenge. People provide that challenge he so desires, because humans can reason. Sanger Rainsford and his friend Whitney were traveling to Rio de Janeiro to hunt a jaguar. Whitney decides to head in for some rest, while Rainsford decides to go on the deck for a smoke.
Most people when they hear “The Most Dangerous Game” they think of bull riding or other dangerous games that don’t involve death. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a suspenseful cliff hanging story that follows the days of a castaway on the island of a crazed hunter. Rainsford is a big game hunter who falls off a boat near the island of General Zaroff, a big Cossack general who is looking for an alternative to hunting dangerous animals but with a twist. Throughout “The Dangerous Game” Rainsford and General Zaroff both show examples of IRony and exert arrogance.
To begin with, in “The Most Dangerous Game” Zaroff has unfair advantages compared to the people he is hunting. On page 26 it says,” I give him a supply and an excellent hunting knife. I give them three hours to start. I am to follow, armed with only a pistol of the smallest caliber and range.”
“I am strong, I hunt the scum of the earth”(17). He only kills them because he wants to hunt something that can reason, something that can change its mind when faced with a life or death situation. “But they are men,” said Rainsford hotly. “Precisely,” said the general”(17). Zaroff is an apex hunter, and he demands the ultimate prey.
However, it does not change for the better. In the middle of the story when he finds out Zaroff hunts fellow human beings, to Zaroff's surprise, Rainsford’s thought and reaction is utter shock and disbelief. “‘But you can’t mean-’ gasped Rainsford. ‘And why not?’”(10). Zaroff knowing Rainsford was a great hunter he hoped that Rainsford would accompany him on a hunt; however, Rainsford accuses him of being a cold-blooded killer.
And the answer was, of course, `it must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason… Great Guns, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder. ’”(Connells 11). Referring to the quote, it exposes how Zaroff tells about the prey and Rainsford got surprised. He even tells Rainsford that he hunts different types of people.
Tanner Toussaint In the short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff. One of the reasons why Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff is on the island the only way to live is to hunt or to be the one being hunted. Secondly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because Zaroff wanted to die. Lastly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because killing Zaroff is going to be the only way Rainsford will escape the island from a psychopath.
Murder is the premeditated killing of one human being by another. Premeditated means think out or plan (an action, especially a crime) beforehand. Now do you think that the killing of General Zaroff was justified? In the story “The most dangerous game” Rainsford stated “I’m not a murder” but can self-defense be perceived as murder? In regards to the Rainsford vs. Zaroff situation, it is my belief that Rainsford killing General Zaroff, was not justified.
but it is General Zaroff that surpasses him. The part of the story when Rainsford asks if Ivan is Russian.... The reader now knows General Zaroff is not a mere hunter but he is out to
