Why Is John F Kennedy A Controversial President

John F. Kennedy, also known as JFK, is perhaps the most-loved president in American history. Our 35th President of the United States served from January 1961 until his assassination in November 1963. Although he was young and did not get to serve his full term he accomplished many great things. All these documents embody the beginning of an admirable presidency and the commencement of a new hope for a nation gone forlorn.     Kennedy served at the pinnacle of the Cold War and spent a large fragment of his presidency focusing on managing relations with the Soviet Union.

In January 1961, a young, good looking, confident, charismatic, and democratic was elected. His name being John Fitzgerald Kennedy, became the 35th president. Kennedy was a symbol of hope for most Americans, and many citizens looked up to him. In fact, Kennedy used a lot of television so everyone knew his face well. His wife Jacqueline invited artist and celebrities into the White House.

However Kennedy did not directly cause the Crisis. He built the Committee of Equal Employment Opportunity that enforces laws against discrimination in the workplace, gave life to the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, and proposed a law to ensure voting rights and outlaw segregation. Kennedy and King had a positive relationship and Kennedy fought for King when he was in jail, and explained to the judge that Kings’ rights are not to be violated. Kennedy too allowed Martin Luther King to demonstrate a peaceful protest known as the March on Washington, where King delivered his “I have a dream” speech. Kennedy was one the best President to step fourth into office. He had the ability to change a nation with his trustworthiness. It’s a character that most presidents need in order for them to be successful in the office, in the past years theirs only been a handful of presidents that were capable of being worthy enough to run our nation. Finally, another point that made John F. Kennedy such a great leader was fighting for equal rights, and arguably this was one of the most important things that he has done throughout his presidency. How did he fight for equal rights? Well first of all, he stood up for the African Americans. On March 6, 1961, he signed Executive Order 10925 which required government contractors to take affirmative action to ensure all employees are treated equally irrespective of their race, creed, color, or national origin. His Executive Order 11063 of November 1962 banned segregation in federally funded housing.

Kennedy’s life, he helped people in many political ways and played a role in politics. He became America's 64th Attorney General in 1960. RFK was a big supporter of the civil rights movement for African Americans. For instance, “in 1962, he sent thousands of federal troops to Oxford, Mississippi, to enforce the U.S. Supreme Court order to admit the first black student to the university of Mississippi. He worked with his brother, JFK, on the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Kennedy was a well known supporter of civil rights legislation, the two obstacles he faced was being young and Roman Catholicism. Martin Luther King Jr. was a great leader before,during The Civil Rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. had a purpose by giving his “I Have A Dream” speech. King gave the speech August 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial. One of his purposes was to changed some people’s minds about racism. Martin Luther King Jr’s speech was for equality, and justice.
