Why Is Quinceaneras Important

There are approximately seven billion human beings in the world, each having their own culture and traditions. Coincidentally enough, “The Tequila Worm” is based on a small town in Texas, with a family who shares the same family traditions as mine. Viola Canales, the author, talks about the main protagonist, Sophia, and how she celebrates her culture. The making of Easter cascarones, celebrating Dia de Los Muertos, and her connection with her father, Sophia’s life is not so different from mine. Therefore, Sophia’s life and experiences are uncanny similarities to mine and that is what this essay will focus on.

I come from an authentic Hispanic family, who is traditional in plenty distinct aspects. We treasure all the memories that have occurred to all of us and we laugh about the embarrassing moments we all had. We hold traditional customs and we accept new traditions as well. All of us are over protective of each and every family member, meaning that if anyone in the family has a problem we will not stop until it is fixed. To every family member, family is always first.

In a Hispanic tradition growing up, its every little girl 's dream to have a huge party when you turn 15 which in Mexico we call quinceanera. It 's a party where all your loved ones go, Friends and family. It 's all something you shouldn 't forget, from all the food, to our tradition, music, dances, planning , laughter, crying , pictures , presents, and much more stuff. Its all a dream come true that we all have a day that everyone dedicates that day to you and only you . First thing for my family and I was to plan this whole party a whole 6 months ahead, or others like to do a year ahead, because of course you need to save money for the party and you have almost all your imidate family helping you out with what ever you may need, they all cooperate with any little thing,

When I turned fifteen my dad threw me a quinceanera. This celebration is basically when a lady, such as myself, takes the first step to becoming a woman.

A sweet sixteen is like a quinceanero, they both are parties. There are tons of food and music, your friends and family are there. Both of these birthdays are meant to symbolize a girl transforming into a woman, this means that the sweet sixteen and the quinceanero is the day the girl becomes a woman. Planning the birthday can take a year in advance. Both quinceanera and sweet sixteen birthday parties can be enormous.

Ever since the conquistadors had conquered Mexico, the life and culture of many modern Mexicans has been altered by Spain. From the design and organization of towns and cities to religion to class system, Spain has definitely made an impression on Mexico. One of the first imprint the Spanish made was leveling the native temples and then putting their Catholic churches and administrative buildings on top. To me, it’s as they - the Spanish are stating their religion - Catholicism - is superior to theirs. Secondly, the Spaniards used the local people as slaves to build their churches and their government buildings.

The idea of having these customs withstand the test of time is truly remarkable. A perfect example of the passing of tradition is the Mexican celebration of El Dia De Los Muertos. El Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday that honors and celebrates loved ones of family who have passed away. Although it has its origins from the Aztec Empire, the holiday is widely celebrated in Latin America and even some parts of the United States.

Cultural influences people on how to communicate with one another and its methods of communication from one culture to another. Culture plays a significant role in intercultural communication. Cultural identity is an element in a person’s life when one understands their own culture, leading to an understanding and appreciation of other cultures as well. It promotes a vital part of communication between people who come from different cultures. This paper will examine my Mexican American cultural background and how it affects my way of communicating with others.

The Southwestern cuisine was created at the influence of Spanish, Mexican and Native American cultures. This influence took place, especially in New Mexico, but also in Arizona, Utah, Colorado and California. The cuisine that has formed has become iconic to the United States Southwest with having many similarities between Mexican food and a unique twist to it. The beginning of all this food style influence came from the legacy of the Aztecs, who were dining on beans, corn, chilies, avocados and onions. All these foods were present throughout the time, even before the Spaniards arrived in the New World.
