Why Is Thomas Jefferson Considered The Unjust Treatment Of The Colonies?

When a president enters office, he often comes with a long list of demands and changes he plans on making for the nation that the man before him did not accomplish. The changes each president has made assisted the forever-growing nation, in hope of benefiting all of the population living within it. Thomas Jefferson, is no different when it comes to wanting to aid the United States, in fact he dedicated most of his life to fighting for what he believed in. Jefferson earned the nickname “The Apostle of Democracy” due to him introducing democracy to the nation (Inside Gov). During the early years of America, there were various different forms of the American Republic especially in between Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson.

His contributions to the Declaration of Independence, along with those others of the Committee of Five, would become legendary including the opening statement “We the People”. That opening was written to encourage the separation of Great Britain and the United States. As a young politician, Jefferson believed in a less fiery route, where he “reminded Britain’s King that he was just a part of the process of governing, but it did not endorse any form of separation from Great Britain” (Gale.) After Jefferson was promoted within the Second Continental Congress and as the country’s frustration with Britain increased, his position hardened and he wrote the Declaration of Independence including “the king a tyrant and said that all men have equal rights that are given by the creator, not the king or any other government entity” (Gale.) Inside the Declaration of Independence Jefferson portrayed three distinct parts.

Jefferson does a good job expressing how important it is to separate colonies from Great Britian. The Declaration of Independence is one of the best written arguments. Jefferson’s tone is very professional and informative. In fact, without “The Declaration of Independence” we today would be pushing Government to make laws of countries.

At no point in the history of humankind has there been something about which everyone can agree. Everyone has different opinions, and the founding era in America was no exception to this rule. People felt very strongly about their views on things like the separation from England, the amount of power the federal government should have, and the idea of a national bank. One of the first decisions to be made in the struggle for America's independence was whether or not they should seek independence in the first place. Those loyal to England believed that rebelling against England would lead only to "devastation and ruin" (Charles Inglis).

Since the late 1760s colonists living in America had been struggling with Britains new restrictions placed on them. They tried to fix the relationship with Britain but it was to no avail. More than half of the colonies just wanted to break away and make their own government rather than continue to struggle with the mother country. The colonies couldn't do as they pleased because the couldn't get to a definite answer as to what people wanted. Some colonies apposed to the thought of splitting away from Britain because they would need to build a brand new government that would work well enough to protect them.

The meaning of equality can be completely different to certain people. A particular environment and perspective can impel someone to have a definition of equality that can differ greatly from the standard dictionary definition. In the case of Jefferson and the men who revised the Declaration of Independence, when they said, ¨All men are created equal¨ their views on equality of all men excluded: slaves, women, and Native Americans. When Jefferson wrote that infamous quote, it is safe to assume that by all men, he meant all white men. Freedom and equality is relative to the specific individual in question; our country has made great strides for complete freedom and equality, but here still is room for improvement.

Furthermore, the lengthy, highly descriptive examination of all the wrongs and showing that the colonists made many appeals to the King but also the people of Britain that the reader now feels as if it is wrong for the Colonies to be under Great Britain.
