Lots of parents and businesses think that books should be banned, do you? I am for banning books because I feel that books should not talk about homosexuality, drugs, alcohol, smoking, nudity etc. Books should be banned due to bad language and bad content. I feel like bad words shouldn 't be allowed in books because kids learn things from books and if it has bad words and bad content in them unfortunately kids will learn inappropriate things. Books should be banned if they have PDA especially with two people of the same gender. I feel like that should not be displayed in books. Books should not contain inappropriate and explicit content for certain audiences. Most of the books that are banned are inappropriate for most ages. “Some of the …show more content…
“The ALA said that school and library officials banned the book in some cases last year because “it includes LGBT characters, was deemed sexually explicit and was considered to have an offensive political viewpoint.” (Cavana 1). First, this quote is important because it is showing readers why this book was banned. The quote connects with band books because it has sexually explicit content in the book and books that are in public libraries. “The children 's book Little Bill was banned because of the “criminal sexual allegations” against the author.” (Cavana 1). Clearly, this quote is important because it is showing readers what not to read and writers not to put in other books. This quote connects with banned books because it had criminal sexual allegations against the author and most of the reasons that books are banned is because of the sexuality in them. Lastly, books should be banned for language and cursing because lots of kids aren 't used to that and there is a bunch of name-callings. There shouldn 't be name calling in children 's books especially because that 's what they read and when they get older that 's what they learned and then they will call people bad names and do bad
Classic books that will move and shape society for years to come are often challenged for the ideas and themes that they give but these things are what makes those books so powerful in the first place. So many popular books that everyone knows about regardless of age have been challenged, for example, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck, both of these books have been challenged yet they are often brought up when looking into famous classic books. “Books dealing with edgy, dark subject matter such as addiction, abuse, suicide and can offer young adult readers a broader perspective on the world.” Writes Ellen Hopkins “but these qualities often make such books and their authors a target for would-be censors.” This idea is shown in Fahrenheit 451 when Beatty talks about burning books with ideas people don’t
There is at least 300 books banned a year for foul language, but don’t you think that an invasion of the authors freedom of press and an invasion of children 's first amendment as well? So I think that books should not be banned. I have three main idea the first on is that the books can be about history and they have some language back then that was fine but is not fine today. The second reason is that libraries should be able to hold all types of books but have an age restricted area. The last reason is that it will get rid of children’s first amendment, and the authors first right as well.
Books can create portals to different life experiences and encourage reading. A few schools and libraries have challenged the educational value of some books, however, therefore leading them to eventually be prohibited in a particular place. Each reason may be different depending on the book and the location of the exclusions. Books are icons of literature and their value should outshine the occasionally offensive topic. Be that as it may, there are multiple reasons why books should be taught and included in a curriculum.
Books are an essential way to gain knowledge whether they are controversial or not. Thousands of books have been banned from public libraries and schools due to being deemed ‘inappropriate’ by parents, administrators, or religious leaders. Whether Americans should ban books in public libraries and schools is an often debated topic. This censorship of books is dangerous, as it restricts the American people's’ ability to access information, leaving Americans ignorant. Historically, banning books is not a new practice.
A parent or the student should be the one who decided whether or not the book is appropriate. Also, when a child is sheltered from the world, a book with just a bit of adult material could help them understand what really happens. It could prepare them so when they do become older and get a job, the world doesn’t put them into complete shock. Taken from Common Reasons for Banning Books, “…it is important that the reader makes his/her judgments on the book.” To elaborate on this, another person shouldn’t tell a student what and what not to read.
Censorship Censorship in schools may not be the best choice for enriching the future minds of the United States of America. Children of the United States of America should have the right to learn about anything for it is there amended right. Taking knowledge away from them and censoring it should not be the answer to keeping our Children pure it should be what we teach our kids. We need to teach them right and wrong that is what will keep our child’s mind pure. Many books are being taken off shelves every day in student libraries because a couple people do not think that the book is suitable for children.
One category of books that has been banned and censored time and time again are books with LGBTQIA+ material. Banning these books are not okay. They are closing door for not only to help people who identify with an LGBTQIA+ ,but they are closing the door so people can learn about the LGBTQIA+ community. One’s actions of banning anything affects everyone, it can be out of selfness or selfishness, it can impact everyone around
First, this text states, “Children should not be exposed to sex, violence, drug use, or other inappropriate topics” (Procon.org). To explain, parents are banning books from schools because they do not want their children to be exposed to these inappropriate topics. Moreover, banning these inappropriate topic books would be a great deal for parents and their children. Furthermore, the same text states that “Keeping books with an inappropriate content out of libraries protects kids, but does not stop people from
Intro 1: What if your young child is looking through a book at your public library and comes across a topic that was way too mature for their mind set. Would you be okay with it? A big controversial issue that has been going on in the past year is if books should be banned. Now, no one is trying to banish libraries across the globe but people have requested to ban books that are inappropriate. This matter has grown to be worse because everyone has an opinion.
Every child deserves a proper education. Banned books are depriving students of a well rounded, culturally aware, literary education because of the culture that is discarded, the history that is being withheld, and the education that young people could get through these banned books. The point of history is to learn from it and learn from others mistakes, but how can we do that if we are not allowed to learn it. As teachers shouldn’t you be teaching us how to make judgment calls like understanding that Mark Twain was a racist, but a man of his time and that doesn’t change him being an amazing writer. We cannot learn things such as that if we cannot even read most of Mark Twain’s books.
Procon.org says, “Parents have the right to decide what material their children are exposed to and when” (Banned Books- Top 3 Pros and Cons). In schools, children do not have to read a book if their parents do not want them to because it contains things they do not want their children to hear about at that time of their lives. " Literary works containing explicit sex, oral sex, explicit & violent descriptions of rape, masturbation, vulgar and obscene language" were on the approved reading list for grades 7-12, according to Speak up for Standards, a group seeking age-appropriate reading materials for students in Dallas, Texas” (Banned Books - Top 3 Pros and Cons). Before parents approve a book, children are introduced to it during school. However, their parents might not want them to read it, therefore, parents should know what books their children are reading that year before the children get exposed to it.
Books, Should We Ban Them Or Not: Banned books are books that have been taken out of public environments because of many different reasons. Books should not be banned simply because we have the rights to any books. Banned Books can teach important things about our history. Books that have been banned teach great morals/lesson even with the negative content. Banning Books infringes on people 's personal rights.
It sexualizes kids at such young ages making it seem okay and as if it is a good thing. Banning this book Is justified by the fact that children mature at different rates. They also bring different life experiences to their reading. The difference in maturity levels among everyone is so different. Allowing students to read a certain book containing specific contents
This is a clear indication that the book is not only entertaining but also literary valuable. Furthermore, the book has been widely read and loved by children and young adults, many of whom have found it to be a source of joy and laughter. Banning the book could be seen as an infringement on the freedom of expression and the right of children to access age-appropriate literature.
Also, some say that you should not be exposing bad behavior or language to students but in reality they hear and see these things everyday, and by banning a book, that is not protecting them. Writers have the freedom to write whatever they want and that is a part of the First Amendment, so why banned their book? “The First Amendment allows individuals to speak, publish, read and view what they wish, worship (or not worship) as they wish, associate with
