The progressive era was very important because it helped America be better by allowing equal rights, treating people better, and making everyone a better person. First of all, the progressive era was important in America's history because it helped America become a better country. Consumption was one bad thing during that time period because people were spending too much money on alcohol and it was very bad for their health. Citizens also noticed that kids and workers were being worked more than usual in harsh environments. This was eventually changed so that people would work less and in better conditions. Some patterns that I noticed were that a lot of the bad things that happened were being stopped or changed for the better like working

The Progressive Era was a time in United Sates History (roughly between 1890 and 1920) that bolstered unparalleled reform across America. Consisting of multiple social welfare reforms, three constitutional amendments, and numerous international policy changes, the Progressive Era resulted in very distinct changes throughout the country. One area of reform heavily emphasized by the movement was social welfare. Movements regarding social welfare aimed to confront and reform the growing gap in American society. As a result of the industrialization preceding and continuing into the Progressive Era, there was a disparity of wealth never before seen in American history.

The Progressives sought to shift power away from political elites and into the hands of the citizenry (Howell, 2011). Progressive reformers did not limit their efforts in improving urban conditions and to reform political systems. Their ideas influenced business and educational practices. They attempted to improve the overall quality of life for many Americans.

Taking on the huge responsibilities, the presidents of that period, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson, actively worked toward equality and social justice. Following by the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, at his middle age with an exuberant personality, succeeded to the office. He was a preservationist, a trustbuster, promoting “Square Deal” and food safety policies. However, his major contribution to the era was on railroad regulation which eliminated corruption in interstate commerce.

The United States may have developed an industrialized, successful economy but it was constructed through unethical morals that did not obey its original institution. America was not living up to its founding principles due to racism, social hierarchy, and the rise of big businesses.

Many people fought for rights and better work environments but were pushed aside for a while. Some reforms were put on hold because of convenience, it was easier for people to continue what they were doing rather than make a change for the better of society. The progressives, wanted to create a society that acted as one. The idea of being an individual was something to be forgotten in order to create a more perfect civilization of order and pureness. During this time of the progressive movement, the rest of society began to reject it ideology of their message and goals of nonpleasure and work. However, with all of the good things that the new era brought, it also brought many bad things too. For an example, it brought bad living conditions, poverty, segregation, women don’t have rights, and monopolies. Something needs to change to make America better. The era that makes this possible, and gives America the potential to be a great country, is the Progressive Era.
