Beowulf, a man of power, dignity, and courage, dies at the age of 76. To the hero who defeated Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the awoken dragon, his fame will always be remembered everywhere.
Beowulf died in the greatest battle against the Dragon along with his loyal companion, Wiglaf, son of Wexstan. Poisoned by the dragon’s fangs, Beowulf speaks his last few words, “Wiglaf, go, quickly, find The dragon’s treasure: we’ve taken its life, But its gold is ours too. Hurry, Bring me ancient silver, precious Jewels, shining armor, and gems Before I die.” His death took place on the tower of the Dragon’s dwelling place in Sweden, but the location of the area is unknown. Wiglaf contributed a big part to the defeat of the dragon.

All of Beowulf’s followers, the Geats, survived the battle with the dragon because they fled into woods for protection. After his death, they all built the tower in honor of Beowulf and sealed his ashes along the walls. Wiglaf, his only follower, presented the seemingly last piece of comitatus and fought bravely against the dragon and luckily survived. Wiglaf watched his king die and spent Beowulf’s last moments of life with him. Not only did Wiglaf show comitatus, but kept the warrior code on his shoulders. Showing great courage and loyalty, he also presented intelligence and generosity.
“He was a man of honor and glory,” said Unferth with pride. “Beowulf shed battle-sweat, and surrendered his life. He will always be held in our

His first step of achievement began with tearing arm off of the body of the supernatural, evil monster, Grendel. All of the geats believed that they’d be able to sleep without fear now thinking Grendel was dead, but they were wrong. This early achievement then lead to one of his greatest milestones of all time. Grendel’s mother seeked revenge on the Geats for hurting her son. Enraged, she swiftly traversed through the night and snatched up Hrothgar’s best friend. The Danes and Geats together marched to Grendel’s mother’s lair, and Beowulf slice’s off the head of Grendel’s mother in an atrocious battle. After, Beowulf beheads Grendel himself and takes home the head and the sword he used with the Geats. Peace was now prominent across
All seemed well until, Grendel's mother attacks the hall and takes back her son’s arm. Beowulf walks back into the hall after all of this is over and hears Hrothgar lament the death of his counsellor. Hrothgar realizes that Grendel's mother was just trying to avenge her son. This attack brings out the stories of the country people and their monster stories. Off in the distance, Beowulf hears a mere and he bolsters courage from Hrothgar.
Beowulf, the epic tale of a Danish society plagued by evil beasts, reveals many thought-provoking and admirable character traits of the main character and hero, Beowulf. Firstly, he shows chivalry through his interactions and actions towards the king of Heorot, showing him the respect and honor he deserved. Secondly, he demonstrates bravery in all battles above and beyond the standard of the times and the standard of his fellow fighters. He owes his bravery in part to his seemingly immeasurable strength, having more power in each fist than that of thirty men. Lastly, he demonstrates a trait that applies to people for his time and ours, pride.
He left his land to go help Hrothgar at the mead hall. Beowulf then waited till the monster (Grendel) comes to attack at night again so he could fight and try to kill him, but he fatally wounds Grendel and later he did die. Another trial was when Grendel’s mother and Beowulf fought, and then killed her as well. He came back to Hrothgar’s mead hall with the trophy of Grendel’s head along with the arm that he already previously had. Beowulf got praised for the mighty battle and saving the rest of Hrothgar’s men.
Rory Martin Mr. Arnold English 4, A period 9 September, 2015 Comitatus in Beowulf With in Beowulf the comitatus was not like any other viking or norse hierarchy. When Beowulf is struck down and killed by the mighty dragon his comitatus should have gone to the son, like any viking or norse kingdom would but seeing as he did not have any children let alone a son he passed on his throne of power onto his most trusted and bravest warrior Wiglaf. For in Beowulf's final moments before his death he passed on all that he had to Wiglaf because he come to and deffened the aged heroic king know to all by Beowulf. Beowulf gave Wiglaf all of his rings and gold during his giving of riches of power for none of his other brave and cowardly warrior
Beowulf is the best epic story. Including perfectly embodies the manners and values such as: Being Loyalty, it seen when Beowulf already travelled through the sea, when the monster began to attack and Beowulf known as the bravest, he wants to fight the monster by himself, not only to consider as a hero but to defend their soldier to them. Being Friendship, after Beowulf won to fight the monster in the middle of the sea, they began to travel among the island, under king hrothgar .Beowulf did not familiarize the island, but he and his soldier still joined to the people around there, to protect and save them to the monster, he is a mission to face the monster, but they enjoy to joined there, and they treat as a their own tribe. Courtesy, instead
Beowulf, born in the land of the Geats, makes the voyage over to the Danes upon hearing the problems troubling the Danes. Even though Hygelac told Beowulf not to, Beowulf went on ahead and he proves his worth, both to his king and the Danes’ king. In the time of crossing the waters, Beowulf kills Grendel, Grendel’s mom, and then a dragon and he inspires one young man named Wiglaf. Wiglaf makes a valiant speech to get Beowulf’s men hustling in the line of defense, but ends up fighting alone. “He picked us out from the army deliberately, honoured us and judged us fit for this action, made me these lavish gifts- and all because he considered us the best of his arms-bearing thanes”
Eventually, a third and last monster appeared. This time the monster was a furious dragon that would attack and burn down the villages of Geatland. Obviously, Beowulf was ready to take on the dragon in a fight, but unfortunately, after defeating it, his wounds were not to fix. Sadly, Beowulf had fought his last fight. Eventually, The Geat’s held a worthy funeral for Beowulf, and they even built an enormous barrow where he could rest in peace.
Not only have we seen brute strength, honorable courage, and admirable loyalty shine through beowulf, Beowulf also possess a great trait not many others have; his will to fight to the death, or self sacrifice. Not once throughout the story did Beowulf ever turn down a battle. Not once did he fear or flee his enemy. Not once did he ever give up even if death had him by the throat causing his mind to flood nothing but fearful thoughts and feelings throughout his body. Every battle Beowulf fought, he fought as if it was his last and that is what truly makes him the great warrior he is.
This scene is relevant due to its differing plot from the other two slayings. During the killing of Grendel, Beowulf tears off his arm and ultimately destroys the wretched monster alone and without frivolous weapons. When the duel between Grendel’s mother arises, Beowulf
The “Monstrous ogress” was “savage in her grief,” and her actions become even more beastly than her sons (Beowulf 1258-76). Women in this Germanic Warrior society were meek, so the actions of Grendel’s mother greatly contrast with the typical behavior of a woman in this time period. Grendel’s mother’s gruesome actions are beastly in nature, but her emotions of outrage and grief for the murder of her son are human. Once again, Beowulf’s victory of the savage monster shows the overall theme of good winning against evil.
Beowulf had done the unthinkable—he had killed a demon that no warrior of Denmark could have done. This opened several new doors for Beowulf, including one that promised of honor, glory, and riches. Beowulf had achieved his goal of fame, a goal which had created a poem of a hero that birthed and shaped a story to be told even years later. Furthermore, Beowulf’s fame was set in stone by Hrothgar, the king who owed Beowulf his everything, including his thanks. After giving Beowulf the speech to further glorify his prominence, Hrothgar declares, “Glory is now yours/
But he knew the greatest threat came knocking at his door for a fight that will live on being told for eternity. Beowulf sacrificed his own life for those around him, “Quickly, the dragon cam at him, encouraged as Beowulf as Beowulf fell back; its breath fared, and he suffered, wrapped around in swirling flames- a king, before, but now a Beaton warrior” (lines 687-691). In the end Beowulf fought till the end fighting not only for himself but for his people. He fought like a king until his death. Beowulf gave the ultimate sacrifice to save his people.
In the Epic poem of Beowulf, there is more than one epic hero. Although hidden, this courageous follower soon shows his loyalty to his lord and leadership amongst his comrades. Out of the fourteen men Beowulf had chosen to assist him on his courageous journeys, only one was his true friend and follower. This young man was known as Wiglaf. Wiglaf, once a Swedish boy, was the son of Wexstan.
In an earlier battle, Beowulf was able to once again exhibit his enormous strength by single handedly tearing off the arm of an enemy giant, Grendel. Lastly, before all of the battles, Beowulf displays his extreme intelligence. After being unjustly embarrassed by Unferth, Beowulf decided to reply in a civil manner. In his reply, he accurately refuted all of Unferth’s claims and turns the embarrassment on him. By responding cordially, he was able to dissolve any potential tension between the Geats and Danes.
Beowulf is the main hero in the poem, and he travels to the land of the Danes to help King Hrothgar get rid of the monster Grendel. After having slain Grendel, there is still a huge crisis present. Grendel’s mother comes to the Hall of Heorot to avenge the death of her kinsmen by killing Aeschere. Aeschere is one of Hrothgar’s most trusted advisors, and his loss bear’s heavy on Hrothgar’s heart. In the culture displayed in Beowulf, the bonds of friendship and kinsmanship are very important to the characters.
