Churchill builds credibility in order to make his audience believe in his words by providing their standpoint in the war they face against Nazi Germany. This policy helped establish a good relationship between the democratic countries. I believe it did help in limiting the Soviet Union from expanding its ideology. Truman expanded the Monroe Doctrine in hopes of providing economic, political, and military support. The United States kept communism from spreading with the Marshall Plan. This was an effort to aid Western Europe after World War II and it was a massive economic aid.

In any situation where one feels threatened, frightened, or hurt an instinctive reaction occurs, a frantic cry for help. Seventy years ago an incredible man sent a similar appeal to the people of America, an appeal not for himself, but for the countries of Europe falling under the boot of Hitler for the second time. Over flickering American radios each syllable thundered  from Winston Churchill’s soft tones as he narrated his speech from London. The powerful message erupted through the air, a message for the people of America, forever reminding them to extend a helping hand to those in need, a message who’s power came simply through Churchill’s brilliant use of voice and choice of wording. Each sentence chocked with sarcasm yet contained a hint of desperation in the attempt to arouse and motivate his audience to aid their allies in order to achieve justice and peace once again.

On December 26, 1941, Sir Winston Churchill delivered this speech to the U.S. Congress following the attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor. The event which threw the U.S. into the War. He related to his audience by jokingly informing them of his heritage of half American half British descent and makes himself one of us to further bond the U.S. and Britain.

Truman was the 33rd American President who served his terms in office from April 12, 1945 to January 20, 1953. One of the important accomplishments during his presidency was the Truman Doctrine. At the end of WWII, Russia was coercing European countries to fall under its sphere of influence, communism. Before and during the war, the British had been moderating this force, but after WWII Britain’s strength and affluence significantly declined. As a result of this, President Truman decided the US needed to become involved in this affair.

This speech did that and established Winston Churchill as one of the greatest leaders in British history, within his first few months of taking office as Prime Minister of Great Brittan. According to the Barnes Center lesson on Ethical Leadership a leader who possesses this strength shows that they owe others respect and dignity, they understand that they are ordered to do what is right no matter what, they are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, and understand that they ought to do what is needed to help others no matter how hard that may be. Churchill knew this and it was never more evident than when gave a speech in 1946 from the U.S denouncing the Soviet’s propaganda of spreading communism. According to History.com, Winston Churchill accused the Soviet Union of being the biggest threat to Christian civilization and for trying to spread communism throughout the world.

On January 6th, 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered his eighth State of the Union address to Congress, known as the speech of the “Four Freedoms.” The purpose of this speech was to persuade Americans to shift their attention from the Axis threat to the British and allied troops in desperate need of support. During the time of this address, America was in a great state of isolationism. The majority of Americans sought to disassociate themselves from any foreign ties, including wars. “Policies to curb immigration quotas and increase tariffs on imported goods were implemented, and a series of Neutrality Acts passed in the 1930’s limited American arms and munitions assistance abroad” (“The Four Freedoms”1).

Furthermore, Winston always believed that a person should always fight for what is right, and that is what he did. With Winston leading his country against Germany, he led with an attitude of bravery and confidence, similar to how the British were feeling at that time. For example, Winston Churchill gave one of his most iconic speeches on the special day of June 4, 1940, where he used his words to inspire people to stand up for the Allies. As a politician he even gave a speech to Parliament and told them he had, “nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.” (history.com) He was showing that he himself was ready to fight as well.

Churchill stated that what he was saying was not aiming at " recrimination", and all he wanted was to give the people a clear image of England 's situation. Churchill continues his speech by telling his people that instead of worrying about the past, they rather be thinking about the future, and about all the things they could do to gain victory. As Churchill says: "of this I am quite sure, that if we open a quarrel between the past and the present, we shall find that we have lost the future. Winston Churchill, in his informational speech, “Their Finest Hour” (June 18th, 1940) explained the military situation and rallied his people for what he probably knew was going to be a tremendous struggle against the Axis. Winston Churchill supports his thesis through, rhetorical questioning, pathos, ethos and logos. Churchill’s purpose was to inform and rally the people in order to strengthen their confidence in Britain 's military. Churchill was addressing the people of Britain as he uses a formal tone, in explaining the military situation. Summary: In his speech, Winston Churchill tried to inspire his fellow British citizens to go to war against Germany. He was a member of the parliament in England and later he became the Prime Minister of that state. He lived during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, who presented him many awards. He went through World War II.

Churchill sought to prepare his people for a possible invasion of Britain by the belligerent Nazi forces and state his earnest resolve to protect the motherland. Throughout his speech, he used pathos, logos, and ethos in a manner that accentuated the profundity of his message and awakened the British people to the need for absolute sacrifice and asked them to brace for a protracted struggle.
