F.D.R was elected for his second term of presidency and began his “Second New Deal”. In this time he created the W.P.A., the N.Y.A., the Wagner Act, the National Labor Relations Board, Fair Labor Standards Act and many others. One of Roosevelt’s largest reforms was the Social Security Act, which finally provided funds and security for the elderly and retired people of America.

Economic imbalances resulting from World War I was the main cause for the Great Depression. Consumers were unable to buy all the goods produced causing manufacturers to close businesses. Closing businesses resulted in a rise of unemployment, however, President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the New Deal as an effort to alleviate poverty and unemployment. President Roosevelt believed that it was essential for the government to protect the less fortunate and improve society [1]. During World War One, propaganda was used for various things such as to encourage more people to enlist in the army, for charities to collect donations, to create a strong hatred for the enemy and a sense of pride in their own country.

During the period 1914 to 1939, the United States went through many events, including WWI, the Great Depression, the growth of federal power, and technological revolution. All of these events had a great influence on the lives of American workers. However, the government policy might be the most influential factor that changed or contributed to American workers. The government policy benefited workers’ working conditions and the quality of life.

The biggest accomplishment of this presidency was his program known as The New Deal, which Roosevelt introduced in the first one hundred days of his presidency as an attempt to reform the nation following war, depression, and greed. With the formation of the National Recovery Administration in June of 1933, industrialists were encouraged to establish fair working conditions, set prices, and minimize competition through “codes” which would ensure fair treatment of workers and promote the economy in general. The New Deal also sought to promote organization of labor through the Committee of Industrial Organization (CIO), which aimed to unionize major industries, even steel and automobiles (which had been extremely anti-union in the past). This is the most drastic shift that can be seen in the relationship between government and labor in the United States, and it is clearly in favor of the labor workers. Another of the many programs FDR set up throughout his presidency offered jobs to many people of all classes and races. An example of this was the Public Works Administration (PWA), which built many popular architects that are still around today. These projects that were offered to all of the public greatly improved America by supporting millions of Americans with jobs and relief of the depression suffrages. As previously mentioned, industrialization significantly altered how work was done in the United States. At this time, large corporations began popping up and taking over the industry. By this I mean, they either bought out smaller family business’ or ran them out of business due to the power and control they had over the United States economy. Moreover, because large corporations tend to be much less “personal” and much more “profit,” working conditions were often not to code, or plain outright illegal; nonetheless, the exploitation of cheap work was possible because Americans had few choices. The Effect of Women on the Outcome of World War Two World War II effected women tremendously by taking them out of their comfort zones and chucking them into the work force and pushing them to do most of the work men normally would have been doing. The war also effected women by providing opportunities for them to serve in non-traditional roles; in fact, some of them enlisted into the military to serve the United States. The way the war effected women is that they had to take care of family in addition to performing work normally done by men. It was difficult to find people to watch after kids which made life during this time very difficult. After the end of World War II society in general was effected considering the baby boom.

In order to give short-term governmental aid and endow people with for temporary work, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the Civilian Conservation Corps were established. The New Deal also focused on invigorating business and agriculture.
