World War I ended in 1918 with the victorious Allied powers, and the peace-promising Treaty of Versailles. However, this treaty 's peace did not last long as its unrealistic demands caused strong resentment within the Central powers against the Allied powers. Territorial losses, reparation payments, and inflation all left Europe in economic ruins. The damage and destruction that resulted from World War I paved a clear path that allowed for World War II to occur. It began in 1933 when Adolf Hitler gained power and, with the help of the Nazi Party, turned Germany in a totalitarian dictatorship. Germans ' appeal of Hitler and the Nazi Party in the early 1930s was due to their nationalistic senses, Hitler 's magnetism, as well as the possibility …show more content…
The first way in which Hitler appealed to the Germans can be attributed to nationalism. Nationalism, excessive pride in one 's country, caused Hitler and the Nazi Party to seem attractive because it was almost second nature. Germans ' hearts burst with pride and "supreme love of their fatherland..." (doc 2). The people of Germany loved their country, and therefore, loved their leader. They were willing to drop everything and fight for Germany if their leader ordered them to. In addition to this, years before the war occurred, Hitler 's name and the Nazi swastika were inevitable throughout German towns (doc 7). This endowed the strong sense of nationalism within Germans. Their minds were trained to love Hitler and the Nazi Party due to their constant exposure to his name and symbol. Also years before World War II, a German newspaper accounted the Nazi Party Nuremberg Convention in 1936. According to this article, marches and ceremonies like this occurred frequently, which shows how loyal and passionate Germans were towards their homeland (doc 8). When Hitler entered the stage, he would receive an "applause...that lasts for minutes" (doc 8). These ceremonies heightened Germans ' sense of nationalism, and the fact they were celebrating a Nazi related convention shows their loyalty towards this party. However, this document could be slightly biased because it is from a newspaper article. Newspapers are notorious for stretching the truth and using an abundance of euphemisms, therefore, the Germans ' love for their leader may not be as genuine at
World War I was a global war which mainly took place in Europe, involving countries on the Triple Alliance such as Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy and their opposing countries, Russia, France and Great Britain, also known as the Triple Entente. The war took place from 28 July, 1914 until 11 November, 1918, killing more than 9 million combatants and impacting many aspects of a nation. Three of the underlying causes of World War 1 were militarism, alliance systems and nationalism. Militarism is a belief that a country should maintain a strong army which is prepared to defend its country. Countries involved in World War I believed that militarism was important for a country’s pride, success, and honor.
World War 1 was an atrocious war that caused millions of deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars in reparations. World War 1 lasted from 1914 to 1919 and rudimentarily, was the fight between the Allied powers and the Central powers. The Allied powers consisted of France, Great Britain, Russia, and Belgium while the Central powers consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. All countries had some participation and damage done throughout World War 1, and the countries who started the war may be obscure. However, there are some countries that can especially be picked out for their contribution and cause for the war.
When World War 1 first initiated in Europe in 1914 with the European nations battling against each other, President Woodrow Wilson declared that the United States would remain neutral. However, after German U-boats began attacking and sinking American and other neutral countries vessels carrying innocent passengers and supplies, President Wilson urged Congress in his address to declare war. Wilson expressed that his decision was not based on revenge or demonstration of strength since “property can be paid for while lives of innocent people cannot be,” but President Wilson wanted to vindicate human rights and bring democracy and peace to the world that was under autocratic authority (Doc. 1). The United States must partner with democratic nations in the war to maintain justice and human liberties in the future by fighting any threats to this peace, including autocratic
The Nazis were oblivious about the devastation they caused as they were influenced by one of the most perilous motives: power, and the lack thereof. During the 1930s, the German citizens felt restricted by their circumstances as the country was in a bleak situation. Millions of citizens were affected by “the worldwide economic depression [which] provoked hyperinflation, social unrest and mass unemployment.” Hitler presented his party, the Nationalist Socialist German Workers’ Party or more commonly known as Nazi Party, as the solution to their problems. It is deeply ingrained into human nature that when one is hopeless, one tends to believe whoever offers the slightest amount of hope.
Nazis popularity and Paul von Hindenburg helped Hitler to chancellor. Hitler promised “the disenchanted a better life and a new and glorious Germany.” Nazis became popular with unemployed, young people, and members of lower middle class. In the 1924 election, no one even knew who the Nazis were.
By getting the youth of Germany to believe in Hitler's ideas the propagandists produced a new generation of people with the ideas and beliefs of Hitler implemented into their heads, making them easier to control. Of course there was also many German citizens in Germany, so in order for the propagandists to get their ideas across they would need to make sure their ideas were able to get to each and every citizen. This meant the propagandist had to use every form of Propaganda to control people. They used posters, songs, Radio, Films, Newspapers, and books. These forms of Propaganda worked exceptionally well due to people being constantly exposed to these forms of propaganda anywhere they went, making it very easy to brainwash the german citizens with their ideas.
On the other hand, it has to be seen as a reflection of 'mentalities', value-systems, and socio-political structures which conditioned the acceptance of a 'Superman' image of political leadership. Ian Kershaw, “The Hitler Myth”, History Today, Volume 35 Issue 11 November 1985, http://www.historytoday.com/ian-kershaw/hitler-myth Source B: Hitler’s successful rise to power – and his charismatic leadership – was based on his rhetorical skills. Germans had to deal with the trauma of a lost war, the destruction of the old political system based on the Kaiser, the fear of a Communist revolution, a humiliating peace treaty. Hitler was thus preaching to people who were desperate. He structured his early speeches to produce an emotional response.
“Our present course [in Vietnam] will not bring victory; will not bring peace; will not stop the bloodshed; and will not advance the interests of the United States or the cause of peace in the world.” Robert F. Kennedy, March 1968 The Vietnam War is one of the most controversial events in American history. The war was between communist North Vietnam and the democratic South Vietnamese. Many Americans felt that we entered the war under false pretenses and were interfering in a civil war that we didn’t belong.
While he dictated, the culture of Germany was changed. Hitler wanted to make the population all think and be one certain way. To make this happen he made, “ Musical performances, movies, and other cultural public activities...all meant to make German’s brains exactly like the Nazi, eliminating any other thought of anti-government”(1). By controlling what people watched and read, Hitler brainwashed Germans to think positively of him and the Nazi’s. The population was not able to freely read or watch any sort of literature or other arts.
Hitler was a great organizer and speaker and could manipulate huge audiences with his great speech skills. Because of his powerful speeches and great leadership, it led him to be chosen leader of the Nazi party. Nevertheless, his power at the Nazi
Nazism significantly impacted the propaganda, terror and repression in a time of the abolition of the Weimar and rising of Hitler. The German civilization was greatly affected German people from 1933-1939 making the ideology of Nazism change most facets of life. The underlying nature of the anti semitic and nationalist theme amongst the media was a supplement to a large portions of society 's initial views. By the 30th of January 1933, Hitler had been appointed Chancellor. The intentions to commit to the ‘Final Solution’ was obvious when he used propaganda, terror and repression in order to influence and persuade his actions, therefore justifying it to himself and others he took authority over.
My first thoughts before I have done any research, are what I think is the most important factor to the rise of Nazi power; this is in my opinion probably the Treaty Of Versailles. This is because many of the other factors were caused or affected by the Treaty. However this is only my opinion, so in the following essay I am going to show my ideas after research of course, following on from this I will be planning to make a conclusion, deciding on which point I think that is the most important to Hitler’s significance of the rise of the Nazi part. Hitler 's contribution to the rise of the Nazi party has been seen by many to be a matter of being in the “right place at the right time”, the people who say this also say that anybody could have been picked to lead the Nazi party and, they would have taken the Nazi party to the same heights as Hitler, just not as quickly as he did. Personally I do not agree with this and see that if Hitler had not been such a strong and persuasive speaker, the German people would not have backed the Nazis with the same force as they did.
Hitler’s speeches convinced people that they were the main cause of all the problems happening in their country. He then convinced everyone through powerful speeches that only Germans should be alive because they were the “perfect race” according
The world went through an accumulation of events that brought about the war. The Treaty of Versailles was one of the biggest frame structures that lead to second war. The nations demanded Germany to pay exorbitant amounts of money after the first war. Germany was deteriorated and in debt, the citizens needed a role figure that lead them to prosperity and security. Adolf Hitler started gaining power through a lot of charisma and work.
It later became mandatory to be in the Hitler Youth in 1930 which gave Hitler complete control of Germany. Hitler also manipulated history in order to gain support. “The Germans have a very different picture of the Battle of the Marne from the rest of the world…,” it portrayed that “a German victory was prevented only by abandoning the field, because of unfortunate misunderstandings, just as the decision was going their way.” (Haffner 9) The German people also were completely brainwashed to the fact they weren’t aware of the atrocities they were committing.
