In July 1999, due to the poverty they were going through, Yanira, Max, and Alirio, made the hard decision of leaving all they had and their families, to seek a better life, and a better future for their families. They first had to come up with the money, to pay the person to get through Guatemala and Mexico illegally (El Coyote). On Monday the 5th, they took off on their journey, leaving El Salvador, in just a couple of hours. They spent 3 days in a hotel in Guatemala city, waiting to cross over to Mexico. This is when the suffering begins, Yanira relates how they walk through the mountains, through the darkness of the night.

For this final project, I listened to Emily Tigges and Greg Dobihal’s presentations on their family’s history and musical roots. Ellington was born April 29th1899 in Washington, D.C. His parents were also musically inclined which allowed them to raise such a talented son. At the age of 15, Ellington began playing the piano again. This tome he stuck with it and ended up writing his first composition “Soda Fountain Rag”.

Williams grew up in a musical home, which influenced his desire in learning to play the piano at a young age. Frédéric François Chopin was a brilliant musician who made an incredible impact not only on the Romantic Era (19th century), which is when he composed his works but also on countless musicians to come. He was a beloved Polish composer and pianist who, during his short 39-year life, was able to rise to become a cultural icon in music history. His main focuses in music were the melody, harmony, and specific piano techniques that were prominent during the Romantic period. His skill on the piano and his heart-felt pieces forever revolutionized the use of the piano for solo, musical pieces. Chopin was born in a small town near Warsaw, Poland named Zelazowa Wola on March 1, 1810.
