On September 11, 2001 tragedy struck in the United States. Terrorists attacked the twin towers in New York City as well as the pentagon located in Washington D.C. With a total of four aircraft hijacked, terrorists managed to fly two of these planes into the World Trade Center. Working in a normal atmosphere, New York became a city of chaos and fear after the first building was hit by the plane. Every American knows of the horrifying terror attacks that took place on September 11th, 2001, in New York and Washington, DC. The terrorist organization al Qaeda hijacked four airlines and flew two of them into the World Trade Center in New York, and one of them into the Pentagon in Washington. The fourth plane was stopped mid ­flight by its brave passengers and did not reach its intended target. Innocent civilians were now the casualties of war waged by an extremist muslim terrorist group based out of Afghanistan. The United States had never witnessed any terrorist attack of this size on its own soil previous to 2001.

On September 11, 2001, tragedy struck the city of New York. On that fateful day, two airplanes were hijacked by terrorists and flew straight into the twin towers. Each tower fell completely to the ground, taking thousands of lives with it and injuring thousands more. Not only did that day leave thousands of families without their loved ones, it also left an entire city and an entire country to deal with the aftermath of the destruction. The 9/11 memorial has only been open for five year so it is surprising that it is so popular. Over 300,000 people have already visited the 9/11 memorial. It’s making a lots of money because the cheapest tickets are $24 and the cheapest tour is $39, and that is per person. Also on the webpage you are able to donate. The reason it is so expensive is because they need to keep it open, and the rest of the money goes the the other buildings they are building.

The 9/11 memorial is very beautiful. The memorial is to the left of where the buildings once stood. The memorial was entered in a large competition to decide which memorial should be put it the place of the twin towers. The winning design that is currently there was designed by Michael Arad and Peter Walker. Along with the memorial there are two very large reflecting pools.

The 9/11 monument has a lot of features that honors 9/11 really well. It has all the names of victims and waterfalls cascading from all four sides. The Towers were 110 stories tall each. The Twin Towers had nearly 200,000 visitors a day. There are a lot of tourist that visit every year.
