Freedom is an important aspect in society. Living in the twenty first century, freedom is taken for granted, however because its so easily attained, freedom has never been seen as something important. Walter Lippmann a famous writer during 1939, argues in his article The Indispensable Opposition the importance of freedom of opinion. Although it’s written in the twentieth century, his argument still applies today. With the use of different rhetorical strategies,like interruption, persuasive diction, and metaphors Walter Lippmann emphasizes his opinion of freedom in society. Throughout his whole essay, Lippmann uses rhetorical strategies to strengthen his opinions of how society views freedom. With the use of interruption in his essay, Lippmann starts his article off by saying, “Were they pressed hard enough, most men would probably confess that political freedom--that is to say, that right to speak freely and to act in opposition--is a noble ideal rather than a practical necessity.” By using dashes in the middle of his sentence, Lipmann starts off with strong opening. With the use of interruption, he gives clarification about what he is going to talk about. Ehrenreich 's preparation guided her consideration toward living conditions more than somebody who may have a business degree. A man with a business degree would grumble more about the organizations ' notoriety or where their cash goes towards as opposed to Ehrenreich, who concentrates more on the lives of her colleagues and the conditions she lives up to expectations in, as when she alludes to Jerry 's as a "chunky individual 's damnation" and how she becomes a close acquaintance with George, a foreigner who needs a companion. Later, in the wake of seeing an associate, Holly, break one of her bones, she readies a comment for Ted her supervisor, "I can put up with shit and snot and every other gross substance I encounter in this line of work.
Seaver addresses the idea that the Coca-Cola Company came up with the ideal slogan of “the real thing” first. Seaver believes and also states in his letter to Herbert that if both companies use the slogan, then there will be confusion in the products, that will cause the customers to be misleading. Seaver complicates matters further when he describes the disadvantage of using the same slogan, which will eventually affect their merchandise. In other words, Seaver knows that if both companies keep using the same motto, customers would be confused in which product is advertised, and it can cause a downfall in their financial.
By misinterpreting and attacking the nuanced areas of the opposition’s argument, one is able to elevate his own argument while degrading that of the opposition’s. Even when an argument is sound and logical, if it contains a single unclear phrase open to interpretation that is followed by critical mockery, it appears inconsequential and foolish to an audience. Such is the case in an exchange between Richard Seaver, the Executive Vice President of the Grove Press publishing company, and Ira Herbert, an executive of Coca-Cola, regarding their common use of the marketing slogan, “it’s the real thing”. Herbert’s argument is innately logical but poorly supported and executed.
The Rhetorical Strategy of a Powerful Argument Patrick Henry’s “Speech of the Virginia Convention” had many interesting rhetorical strategies. The ones that were most notable was diction, logs appeal, allusion, and imagery. The “Speech of the Virginia Convention” was a strong argument to convince the patriots, loyalist, and the colonist for freedom. Patrick Henry only wanted the best for his fellow americans and for him. His “Speech of the Virginia Convention” led the argument to war with the british.
The author continuously relies on a series of factual events that relate to what her particular arguments are. The American Creed expresses many ideals and principles that are clearly cherished by a majority of fellow Americans. Examples of these ever-important standards of the American Creed are evident in both Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walden by Henry David Thoreau. After reading and analyzing both texts, the reader detects obvious examples of independence, equality, diversity, liberty and opportunity. While both stories have their similarities in these topics, the two authors also express contrasting opinions. Liberty is a standard addressed in both Emerson and Thoreau’s writings that is alike in both mens’ perspectives.
Two Concepts of Liberty Summary of the essay: In this essay, the famous political theorist Isaiah Berlin tries to differentiate between the notions of positive liberty and negative liberty. Berlin briefly discusses the meaning of the word ‘freedom’. He says that a person is said to free when no man or body of men interferes with his activity. He makes reference to many philosophers in the essay, but there is more emphasis on the thoughts of J. S. Mill and Rousseau, the former being a firm advocate of negative liberty while the latter believes strongly in the ideals of positive liberty.

Stanley Fish presents his main argument about how people misuse this amendment for all their conflicts involving from racial issues to current political affairs in his article, Free-Speech Follies. His article involves those who misinterpret the First Amendment as their own works or constantly use it as an excuse to express their attitudes and desires about a certain subject matter. Norman Rockwell is an Americana artist. He was born in New York city on February 3rd ,1894 . Inspired by president Franklin D.Roosevelt’s famous “ Four Freedoms” speech delivered to Congress on the eve of World War II, Norman Rockwell created fort painting depicting simple family scenes,illustrating freedoms Americans often take for granted. The Four Freedoms are printed and distributed,ultimately raising $132 million for the war effort(Cutler 18). He spends six months to finished those painting in 1943.The Four freedoms which are freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear.
