The Revolutionary War was the beginning of our fight for independence as a nation from Britain. Without the men and women who selflessly aided in the fight for independence, the United States of America would have never formed. A vital part of the Revolutionary War as well as any war is intelligence or information gathered on the enemy. The amount and importance of gathered intelligence can win or lose a war. During the war, a group of motivated Patriots played a vital role in gathering important intelligence on the British military.

After all, they had more troops and they were better trained. There were many factors, though, that led to their defeat. Just like in the Revolutionary War, the British underestimated the Americans, and that was their main issue. Arrogance was a factor in this. Admiral Cochrane, for example, would not accept his men’s plan of how to move the barges from the bayou and instead wasted days executing his plan of how to do it (128).

At the start of the French and Indian War the French owned a big majority of land but the during the war the French lost their land to the English. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 gave the English, the French land of North America (Doc A).

The two conflicting sides of the American Revolution were vastly different from each other and the outcome itself is quite surprising. As you may know, the victors of the American Revolution were the Americans and they managed to break free of British control. The reason for this being so surprising is that the army of the Americans was mostly comprised of average everyday people. As opposed to that, the British, who were once hailed as the strongest power of the world at one point in history, were highly trained and skilled in combat and they had a very strong naval force. Seeing it like this one might point out that the British were at a complete advantage.

Along with the British raising taxes, they also started making Americans allow British soldiers to live in their houses. The British government elected people in England to be the lawmakers and the Americans felt like the people in England would not understand their needs. With all these things occurring, the Americans never even considered the freedom from England. When the war started, the Americans came to realize it was their freedom they were fighting for and they were going to be independent. As the war went on, the Americans fought harder for their beliefs and freedom.

It marked the first time in history that people fought for their independence. Even though there were not as many deaths in this war compared to the wars that would come in later years, it was still a great part of history and not only for America, but other countries as well. The colonists winning the American Revolution was an anomaly. The colonists were not well supplied or trained, while the British had been unbeatable for the past century. Even when fighting powerful nations, such as France and Spain, the British won. But, the colonists did have many advantages, the main advantage being knowing the geography of the fighting grounds.
