The era of reconstruction came after the civil war. People still argue that the blacks were fully free or not. African Americans were not free during the civil war. This is one example of how african americans were not fully free during the era of reconstruction . African Americans were not allowed to be in the city limits of Opelousas or they will be charged a fine of five dollars and do two days in jail and then work on public street. No African American shall be able to rent or keep a house under any condition. No Black person can live in the same town with a white person previous owner.
